anyone check this out? i guess it's not in a lot of theaters right now. it's this documentary about this guy billy mitchell, the guy who did the first perfect game of pac man. he got this incredible donkey kong high score back in the 80's and he's been bragging about it ever since basically. the documentary follows this guy steve from cali who is trying to break his high score. .it's pretty good. you end up rooting for this steve guy more than you've rooted for anyone in your life. it's ends up being like a real good vs. evil thing.

I think the first True Life I'm a Gamer had this "hot sauce mogul" on it. He said in it (this was years ago) that he was planning something huge wrt video gaming achievements; and that if he accomplished it that it would be like zomg the craziest thing evar. Wonder wtf that was, he never revealed.

I haven't seen the movie yet, but I've heard it's a huge distortion, creating the good vs. evil that isn't real, just like a reality TV show. In any case, it sounds good.

Anyway, the sick thing is that .......

why on earth would you post a spoiler you idiot?

Like other movies I want to see I'm waiting for it to make it to Cleveland, which likely means I'm waiting for Netflix.

daryn,

Sounds awesome, thanks for the heads-up.

This is also from my generation...my old man was a Pac Man freak and we would spend hours at bars playing the sit-down version of these games. I was so good at Pac Man at around age ten that once after a Suns game I played at a restaurant with All-Star forward Larry Nance and he had to leave before he even got a turn because I was owning the game so hard.

It does seem to me though that those 80s classics would get ridiculously repetitive and you would lose your mind and that you have to be an obsessed freak to want to subject yourself to such tedium, which I'm guessing these guys are.

I saw the preview for this from the other movie thread and would love to see it, but as far as I can tell, I don't think there is a theatre in Canada that's showing this movie.

Entertaining watch. I nominate Billy Mitchell for biggest douche in the universe.

I got to see this at SXSW in March and was lucky enough to meet the crew for lunch, and go out with them that night (my friend is the Associate Producer). Unfortunately I saw it the day after going out with them because I would have had a lot more to talk to Steve about. I spent most of the night talking to the producer, Ed Cunningham, who was a really cool guy.

Minor brag about when I went to see it. SXSW movies work such that people that bought passes get to go in first and the left over seats are sold to schmucks like me. My chances of getting into the screening looked pretty bad, and I texted my friend who had returned to LA saying I didnt think I was going to get to see his movie. A couple minutes later the producer came out and got me in for free.

cbloom, where'd you hear it was a huge distortion? It seemed like it was pretty true to the actual events. The creators were lucky that this movie sort of fell in their lap near the beginning so they were able to catch so much of it on film.

Either way, I thought it was a fantastic movie. I'm looking forward to going to see this again sometime next week. The film is going to be made into a feature length move. I don't really see how hiring actors, writers and even fictionalizing the story could improve it much.
