Re: Could you go 3 rounds with a 14yo MMA fighter?

After watching that video and reading a bit more about the kid I admit I greatly over estimated his ability. I'm convinced anyone on this forum (myself included) would destroy that guy. He wouldn't even be strong enough to get me in an arm bar or anything like that.

yeah that little girl looked like she was using some pretty sophisticated submission defense, that's probably why it took him so long to put her out amirite?

dont leave wrist/arms outside of your frame.

keep hands/arms contacting person or in air... never on mat.

Hammerfists/repeated right's when he high guard's you.

It'd take me about 5 minutes of pointers to do/use the Lutter triangle defense.

use brute strength to break his ankles/wrists/fingers when he RNC's you. Chin down and some minor wrist control and theres no way he sinks it anyways.

....not that hard?

I'd actually be more afraid of jenny in a pure grappling match.

oh i see. submission grappling is useless because anyone given 5 minutes worth of pointers becomes impossible to submit.

you should get into mma coaching. no one needs to be submitted in an mma match ever again!

mr. clean - yeah that was my point. i can't help but think people are just overestimating this kid's ability to beat a grown man in a fight...
(mostly grunching)

being a grown man, and even being bigger/stronger doesn't mean that much when you have a gigantic technique disadvantage.

also weight isn't that big a deal, when for most of us weight = fat. Bruce Lee weighed 160 pounds. I weight about 220 now and that 60 pound edge would only have hurt me by slowing me down.

I mean, rephrase this question by "could you go 3 rounds with a flyweight (< 112 pounds) boxer". unless you are a trained boxer, you would be knocked out pretty quickly.

obv. this kid isn't a professional, but he's also bigger than a flyweight boxer, and more importantly he has all kinds of techniques that boxers don't train on.

anyway I have rudimentary wrestling skills from way back (even a little bit helps) but there is now way I could compete with somebody with trained technique, even if they are smaller than me, by a lot.

You're not talking about the traingle defense Lutter used against Anderson Silva are you? You mean the defense where he took repeated elbow shots to the top of his head and eventually tapped out? You mean the defense that Lutter has learned through 10 years of hard training?

Yep, 5 minutes of pointers and you can take a kid who is training full time to fight.

Re: Could you go 3 rounds with a 14yo MMA fighter?

I haven't looked at the video, but apparently it isn't valid because it was when he was 11. 11 to 14 is a massive difference.

I think 14 is actually about the right line here, age wise. I wouldn't ever argue for a 11-12 year old, and I'm guessing very few of you think you could beat this kid at 15-16. So I'd say 13.5-14 is about the age when this kid starts to be able to take untrained but strong adults.

Why are 12-year-olds doing co-ed grappling? Does this seem kinda stupid to anyone else?

why shouldn't they be? i don't think there's a hell of a lot of difference between boys and girls with regards to strength and athleticism before they go through puberty.

she was probably entered in the boys division, though.

Re: Could you go 3 rounds with a 14yo MMA fighter?

No chance.

I think the main problem is that I don't have any automatisms in the fight while he will just execute his moves on autopilot so there is a big chance I'm ****ed if he gets me in some kind of armbar because i need some time to figure out he's exactly trying and I'm not sure i can get out with pure random strength bursts if he manages to put it on me.

However i also have no clue how the strength of an excellent trained 14y old is, if it's 75% of my total strength i think Im ****ed.

he's about my size, so I'd be toast. I guess I'd whisper in his ear at the glove tap that I have aids, then bite my lip and start spitting at him when the bell rung? I might also just concede a few points by trying to poke him the eyes or bite him or something. a bunch of vaseline, plaster under my gloves, etc

Re: Could you go 3 rounds with a 14yo MMA fighter?

I have no idea where I heard this from, and I may have heard it from some completely ridiculous source, like a movie or tv show or even a post on this website, but I've heard about Vietnamese (or some sort of Asian) kids, probably around 14 years of age, taking on American soldiers in organized fights and beating ass.

Take this for what its worth though, because in no way am I endorsing this as true, probably just an urban legend I've heard.

A lot of people here are really underestimating how tough a 14 year old can be. My little brother took muy thai for about a year, and conveniently he's 14. I have no doubt I could take him in a fight, but he's fat and very out of shape. I do think that he could definitely hurt the hell out of me in a fight though, his kicks are amazingly powerful and his grappling skills are decent considering he was one of the laziest students ever. I think a a disciplined, well trained 14 year old could beat my ass. I'm 6'2, 220 lbs.

mark hunt's pretty fat and is 5-4 in mma and has a ton of wins in k-1 (kickboxing). i'd imagine ufc has had all of his pride fights taken off of youtube at this point but you can still find a bunch of his k-1 stuff on there.

butterbean's actually 10-6-1 in mma. of course his opponents tend to be around the same skill level as his boxing opponents.

edit:hunt whoopin some ass (mostly k-1 i think)

butterbean mma win. takes ****ing forever to get to the fight though. skip to the 4:45 mark.

Alot of Internet tough guys out I see. 95% of this forum would be destroyed by this kid, because the technique of most martial arts does not focus on brute strength, but fundamental weaknesses of the human form, using ideas like leverage, the range of motion of joints and so on.

Re: Could you go 3 rounds with a 14yo MMA fighter?

This may provide the slightest bit of insight.

I work in what is called a semi-secure residential treatment facility. The entire facility holds approximately 175 youths between the ages of 10-18. It is mainly broken down into a bunch of "cottages" that each hold on average about 16 kids. The particular cottage i work in houses boys between the ages of 12-18 primarily with conduct disorder problems. These kids are mainly locked up for burglarly, assault, battery, intimidation, or incorrigibility. Sometimes we have to restrain these kids. This basically entails wrestling them to the ground and holding them down until theyve calmed down. Two of the strongest kids I've had to restrain were 13. Both were approximately 5'8, 160lbs, and solid as a rock. I'm certain neither has had any sort of formal fighting or wrestling training. I'm 25 years old and about 6'1, 220lbs, slightly overweight, but in decent shape. Without another staff to help, either of these kids may have been able to overpower me during the restraint.

Before working at this place, I never even entertained the idea of a 13 year old potentially being able to whip my ass. I have no doubt that a trained badass 14 year-old could do so.

first of all, http://www.cdc.gov/nchs/data/nhanes/...l/cj41l021.pdf

second, that's pretty sad dude. they're barely teenagers and you have 60lbs on them and you think either could overpower you? by my definition you can't possibly be in anything near "decent shape" unless these kids aren't only 99th percentile in height/weight but also have been weight training since birth
