Re: Could you go 3 rounds with a 14yo MMA fighter?

Rootabager,

How the hell can you claim to have done BJJ for 6 months and really say that you would 'leg curl' your way out of a foot lock? Have you ever seen a footlock? do you know the mechanics involved? Leg curling has jack**** to do with it.

I'm with you on some of the stuff, that a guy with a little bit of training could power out of stuff, but not everything. If he slaps a RNC on you then you aren't getting out. An armbar, maybe you can stack him pretty easily but you cannot curl more than his back can pull if he gets you prone. You are flat wrong with no room for debate. I can't seriously believe anyone who's grappled before could be so dumb.

Technique is huge in this sport, but strength is a huge factor when you can equalize the technique.

His best chance would obviously be on the ground, but I'm pretty sure I could still hold my own there.
This is the type of stuff that would work imo.

Do you think a 5 year old girl could RNC you? or armbar you? There is no way. The strength thing is the same for a 14 year old pre puberty kid.

Re: Could you go 3 rounds with a 14yo MMA fighter?

I don't thinks so. I'm 5'9, 170lbs and 20 y/o. I have zero training except some extremely basic boxing (i.e. I can hold my hands up and sort of throw a punch). I could maybe last against a striker depending on how good he was since a 14 y/o wouldn't have anywhere near as much power as an adult and I'd likely have a height/reach advantage.

If he was a wrestler or BJJ guy there's basically no chance.

I'm basically approaching this as if the fighter was like a adult fighter, only really small, light and not strong.

I'm not saying he couldn't. I'm saying I don't know, but my instincts say I'd have a good chance to take him. Yet I know there are going to be a certain % of MMA fans coming in here falling all over themselves to come up with more and more drastic depictions of what this kid is going to do to me.

I'd just like to see some anecdotal evidence of a skilled fighter vs. someone non-skilled but in-shape who weights 100+ more lbs. in an MMA-style fight or street fight in close quarters.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5yhqF...eature=related

I wouldn't call him "in shape" but he's not non-skilled either so it balances out :-)

Re: Could you go 3 rounds with a 14yo MMA fighter?

Ok guys I did some field research on this, waited by my local Muay Thai/MMA gym for some tough looking 14-year old to come out, jumped his ass and got him to submit pretty quick. Then I ran away. Youtube clip coming soon.

If this match were set up in a ring then the kid would dance around and keep away the entire first round. By the time the 2nd round comes most everyone in the forum would be dogging it pretty hard and he would eat us all for lunch.

i'm 30, and I would get crushed by anyone with MMA training. A 5 year old, I could take him, but 14 year olds can be decent size and strong. If they have training, they could rock you.

Semi-grunch. I've had my ass handed to me for the last 6 months by people (men, women and kids) half my size in BJJ.

Re: Could you go 3 rounds with a 14yo MMA fighter?

really drunk last night, but rereading everything, i'm still really confident.

i teach 14 year olds, and while this kid is obviously tougher/stronger/more confident, etc. than most of the kids i'd teach, i'm not 130 lbs.

for this kid to get me on the ground, he's going to have to eat multiple shots, and i guess that's what it'd come down to. if he eats them, and isn't phased, he's got a shot.

if the fight lasts more than 3 minutes or so, his chances increase every second, because my strength wouldn't mean as much. in this situation, i could see him using his cardio to 'swarm' me, and at that point, hopefully my pride would come in, and i'd be able to summon one last flurry to finish him.

still, speaking only for me, in a 1-fight matchup (ie not a hypothetical 10-match series), i'm the heavy, heavy favorite in striking, strength, and most likely mentally.

Re: Could you go 3 rounds with a 14yo MMA fighter?

You also have to take into consideration the kid was a whiny little ***** when his nose was bleeding (after the fight, who cares?). If he's freaking out over a little blood, more people could take him then they think. Kid doesnt even seem like he wants to do mma, his dad just makes him.

But seriously, maybe its just because im a "big" dude... but do a lot of people have such low self esteem that they'd avoid some kid half their size and age punking them? Must be a ****ty way to walk around in life, avoiding eye contact with girl scouts incase they think you're trying to stare them down.

ahhh...good play.

but to answer the original question, no, i probably couldn't go 3 rounds with this kid. my goal is to be done in a minute or less...

anyhow, i'm off to the mall to find a 14 year old, 130lb kid to beat down..

I'm 31 and in very good shape and have spent a lot of time training in boxing and other martial arts, and I know and have sparred with several 15-16 year old kids who could knock me out easily. even kids that don't weigh a lot can punch much harder than you might think.

You are delusional?

Huh?

How is a 5 year old girl the same as an elite 14 year old boy? You are just making absurd comparisons at this point. jeez. if you have an argument go ahead and make it, but if you are ******ed just shut the hell up. There's no way to compare the strengh between those two.

Either he really has some training and this is all a level, he's simply trolling, or he's just ******ed.

BJJ straight up is way different than MMA though. There is a big difference between worrying about a cross-face coming at you when you go in for a double leg take down and a guy sprawling and then pounding your face into the ground.

A lot changes when you take punching and kicking out of the equation.

Things would be a lot different if you took submissions out of the equation as well. If we did just straight wrestling then I would burying the hell out of this kid. He may have decent grappling skills, but the majority of his defensive experience is on his back in a guard. Where I come from, in the land of wrestling, that is called being pinned.

Submissions would be the key to this kid's victory against most men. If you can neutralize that then most men should be able to beat the crap out of him. That is obviously a big if though.

Also, please note that I said "men."

OK and if we made it a snowboarding race instead I'd kick his ass, so ****ing what?

In an MMA match I think this kid kicks my ass. I'm 6'2" 260lbs with a couple years of boxing three times a week. Unless he walks into my fists and I get a KO he's going to take me down and I don't know **** about ground work.

I'm 6'3, 205, very quick and in very good shape. I'd go for a one punch KO and in the 1% chance of the floor being wet or opponent having a stroke mid throw I'd just immediately fake an injury after wards. Runner runner straight flush. Otherwise I know I'm doomed.
