So I guess they're going to checking your COVID vaccine card while scanning tickets? There are going to be a lot of drunk people losing their COVID vaccine cards after making it through the gates lol. Or hell, some people will probably lose them tailgating.

Bills mafia!

Can they actually refuse service for not having proof of vaccination? Seems like there’s probably some sort of law about not having to provide medical information to watch football.

This is a well thought out response to legitimate question.

Good for them. It won't be 2 degrees there on game day in October.

I don't see how any private company could be forced out of doing such a thing. It reduces their liability. And obviously watching football specifically in the stadium when it's widely available on TV is the furthest thing from a fundamental human right, so there's not much of a competing interest to consider here.

I’m not against it. I have one of those nifty yellow vax cards and a covid vax card. I just don’t recall ever having to use it outside of international travel. The inter web says it’s legal for now. This country at one point anyway was pretty anti “carrying papers” and I figured there might be some law against it.

There was no health and safety aspect to that. My knowledge of tort law related to property owner liability is rusty, but I’m pretty sure fans going to a game would be considered invitees and would therefore be owed the highest duty by the business they’re patronizing to provide a safe atmosphere. There just wasn’t anything like that present in the case you’re talking about.

I'll be interested to see how the peer-reviewed studies on the efficacy of Pfizer/Moderna against the South African variant go - if the efficacy drops significantly and it starts spreading in the US (which I assume is a foregone conclusion), I'm retreating back into my cave until a booster comes out to combat it

If I'm on the side of the gay wedding cake couple, not the bakery, and if I'm on the side of integration, not segregation, etc. how can I support "we're only going to invite people we want to invite" to football games?
It is discriminatory. Discrimination is not automatically illegal.

This molecular biologist is a good follow on Twitter, and breaks things down so that even dummies like me can just about follow.

My understanding is that the vaccines should have a decent amount of efficacy against variants, from all the data so far.

Not so sure about the chinese one, which I think is ~10% against one of them. Can't remember without reading up again.

Ya what the hell, this is such an obvious point. Private companies can do almost whatever they want. There are like 4 or 5 things they're not allowed to discriminate against (lawyers of 2+2 please feel free to clarify), otherwise they let in whoever they feel like. I'm a little bit shocked there are Americans out there that didn't realize this.

It's probably a separate discussion whether this is good for society, but of course this is how it works in the USA.

I don't think it's unreasonable to question discrimination against people who have a pre-existing condition that has caused their doctor to advise against becoming vaccinated. I don't want to get out over my skis pretending to understand anti-discrimination law better than I do, but without studying the issue I do wonder if that would fall under protections for people with disabilities.

In any case, I would proceed under the assumption that people like that are very rare cases relative to the population as a whole, and that accommodating them would not force businesses into a full-on open season where everyone has to be accommodated because the mere possibility exists that they could be one of those people.

If I had compared Covid to car accidents, you might have a point. But I didn't, at all, so I guess there is nothing left to say except go **** yourself.

Please feel free to explain how I compared Covid to car accidents.

At worst, I was trivializing concerns about extremely rare side effects of the J&J vaccine because the risk of side effects from the vaccine is so small in comparison to the risk of getting Covid and potentially transmitting it to others.

I wonder if a gay bar/sex club/brothel could require proof that patrons are on Prep before entry.
