There have been many great comedians, but there is often an overlap in styles. Norm was a comedian unto himself, someone who seems kind of impossible to replicate.

Norm seemed to be sincerely flummoxed that animal hospitals were a thing that exists. It's like it escaped his notice that veterinarians were a thing. Not a Leno guy, but I love Leno's tickled reaction as he tries to interject that of course he knows about animal hospitals.

The Seinfeld episode with a plot that mirrored this bit aired after this interview, so it seems like he may have worked up a bit here that gave rise to its own Seinfeld plot.
