This is actually the 3rd prototype the Chinese developed in their bio warfare. If this trial goes well they will unleash the real thing.

Currently 5 days into a 14 day self quarantine as mandated by my employer. Not fun with a two year old.

Yeah, generally you don't develop long-lasting immunity to this family of virus. So it seems likely that we'll have this 1 huge outbreak with a 100% naive population, and then every year from now on might go from "cold and flu season" to "cold, flu, and coronavirus season".

Everything I've read from experts who don't have a vested interest in preventing panic (read employees/officials of CDC/WHO and like agencies) says this is the likely outcome... since a few weeks ago, pretty soon after we started hearing about Covid-19.

And I think CDC recently admitted that spread in US is a matter of time... basically quietly moving toward admitting what non-interested experts have been saying is probably right.

I mean did you really need an expert to tell you this? I've been saying this from the beginning. The outcome with regards to infection saturation is pretty obvious.

I just got back from the market where I bought $400 worth of mostly canned goods (stuff I will eat so it won't go to waste), vitamins and toilet paper. Then:

Cashier: 'Haven't been food shopping for a while?'
Me: 'There is going to be a food panic w/i two months.'
Cashier: 'I don't believe that. God will intervene.'

Well. Howard knows an argument that can't be countered with reason when he sees one so I shut up.

Did add $20 worth of Girl Scout cookies, the coconut ones, on the way out as well.

I've been saying the same thing as well but I got such vicious pushback I just started citing experts that said the same thing. From the very beginning, I said the infection rate is probably way higher and death rate way lower than the numbers so far indicate (death/(death+recovered) is still trending down).

No one is saying its not a disease, we're just saying it's not showing signs of being a civilization-threatening disease.

In a few years, if cold, flu, and COVID season comes every year, it will be normalized and no one will freak out about it.

Right now, people are losing their minds because OMG CALIFORNIA HAS A SECOND CASE!

Don't get me wrong, I don't want it, but I'm also not planning my life around avoiding it. There are a lot of more likely killers out there, and for the most part I'm not planning my life around avoiding them either.

I say this as a guy who lost a friend to bird flu, btw. Feels bad, but we still over-reacted to that disease too. Meanwhile, I've lost multiple friends to traffic accidents, but "that's just a part of modern life," right?

Shoulda gotten the Thin Mint GS cookies. They will keep for months in the freezer and are at their most delicious when frozen. The perfect survival food--as long as there is electricity handy.

So is it over reacting to wear a seat belt and drive defensively?

there probably won't be any problem with tap water. it's def possible, but buying bottled water will only help so much. you will run out very very fast. obviously better to have it than not to have it. but if tap water doesn't work and you are trapped in your house you won't last long.

if you don't have toilet paper you can pretty easily use water and soap to clean yourself.

and right now obviously it's not yet a global emergency or we would all be living very differently. but it has the potential to be

If it becomes a yearly thing and hits this 40-70% infection rate each year, and has a fatality rate of 15%+ for old people .. well, I guess there's going to be some open space on the shuffleboard courts.

I hope I'm wrong, but I'm sure this won't age well. Enjoy it while you can.

And are you really basing your justification that this is overblown and we shouldn't take pre cautions by quoting some guy saying "probably this and probably that?"

So you are saying that if tap water becomes contaminated with the virus then you will use it to clean your butt?
