My non-expert advice and one I plan to follow myself is treat it like a bad cold or flu until it gets to the point of "omg, this is the worst flu ever" then go to urgent care or ER.

any virus you stay at home, there are no drugs that can cure a virus, the only reason people go to the ER is when they start having trouble breathing and need help from machines so they don't die while their immune system is trying to ward off the virus

so yeah you stay at home unless you feel like you may be dying

Stay at home for a couple weeks until you recover.

Go to the hospital if you feel like you have trouble breathing. That's what pretty much everyone ends up going in for to get treatment.

Got off a plane from NYC on Thursday after two months spread between London/NYC/Puerto Rico. Woke up today with soar throat and head congestion. Haven't had a chance to take temperature.

It was nice knowing you.

Also I'm sandwiched between the first known case in the US and the first death in the US.

I believe I heard that if you have upper respiratory like nose and throat, that is not Corona.
Do your own research tho.

Fever, short of breath and dry cough are the main symptoms.

I'll take the under. Cruise ships are very enclosed environments, near optimal for virus spread. Plus cruise passenger demographics trend old.

I think high fever was a pretty common symptom. But the breathing component is the most dangerous one I think.

But people who typically go on a cruise are fat. And fat people are lucky so I would say it's a wash.

I find it interesting with the wall to wall coverage and general anxiety surrounding this, that people still have a tough time articulating the symptoms and exactly what to do if you are feeling a certain way. You’d think that should be the thing getting hammered home.

This.

Therefore, it makes little difference what you do at this point. Buck up, little fella. Maybe later.

ETA: Just do the same thing you would/should do for the same symptoms as if you had never heard of this stuff.

My guess is no. Although the Japanese government is going to do absolutely everything they can to avoid a cancellation.

You would have thought healthcare providers would get their supplies from the manufacturer, not amazon.

You would have thought they had more than 3 days worth of masks but that would be socialism.

Make the doctors buy their masks at the store like anyone else.

The information is out there.

I have the Corona Virus

Quote:
As we took off from Tokyo, I had a bit of a cough, but I chalked it up to the dry air in the cabin. I felt pretty tired — but who wouldn’t, in our situation? I dozed off.

When I woke up, I had a fever. I made my way to the back of the cargo plane, where the Air Force had set up a quarantine area cordoned off with sheets of plastic. They took my temperature. It was over 103 degrees

....no chills, no body aches. I breathe easily, and I don’t have a stuffy nose. My chest feels tight, and I have coughing spells. If I were at home with similar symptoms, I probably would have gone to work as usual.

During the first few days, the hospital staff hooked me up to an IV, mostly as a precaution, and used it to administer magnesium and potassium, just to make sure I had plenty of vitamins. Other than that, my treatment has consisted of what felt like gallons and gallons of Gatorade — and, when my fever rose just above 100 degrees, some ibuprofen

Can you go check it out and report back? I'm curious what a quarantine looks like when it's not the movies.

The UK plans on calling up old retired healthcare workers in the event of a major outbreak. Perhaps in an effort to sacrifice the crusty olds as fever fodder to appease the plague gods.
