Adults on the whole just dont act this way, and if you think you see it on a frequent basis, its you.
Also Im not it anyway being too litteral. My statement is qualified by authenticity.
Someone who claims to do X because they are afraid of Y, but doing X to gain social status of some kind is a higher motivation than any genuine fear is "performing" by any reasonable use of that term.
