Dammit!

I don't suppose I could convince you that I have been doing that all along?

Thanks for the tip!

But the data also reveal an arguably more interesting finding: among the same group, 41% said they got or plan to get vaccinated at least in part because they’re worried about being around maskless unvaccinated people.

I'm 1 of these people. I was always going to get it but was putting it off for no good reason but after they announced the no masks I made an appointment the next day

Is it really that big of an expense? Average stay is 2-3 nights? What % of people actually want a stranger in their room? I've basically been maid free the few times I stay at hotels anymore (usually do house rentals as it is much superior with kids). And now that they guilt people about getting new towels to save the earth, it seems like it is already a pretty lean operation as they assume that x% of rooms will not need service even though occupied.

Regarding people still being scared, and fear-mongering about "variants" and such - is it really their fault? I'm fortunate to have watched a bunch of the UCSF Grand Rounds videos and learned:

- When the first vaccine was announced, Paul Offit explains that the obvious hesitancy because of "possible long term side effects" flies in the face of a century of vaccine data and that he would get it that day if he could. So I was never worried about that.

- Despite the scary sounding "70% effective" J&J or even the "95% effective" Pfizer, serious illness or avoiding hospitalization/death is ~100%.

- "X variant breaks through vaccines" - lol no

- "You should only mingle with other fully vaccinated people" - lol no, do w/e the **** you want

I rarely read Twitter and almost never read news headlines or watch TV news. So I'm not seeing everything the normies are seeing about "Concerning Variants" or zoomers tweeting "lmao at people thinking we're ever going back to normal" or threads from randos about how if we don't get the world to 80% vaccinated by fall we're going to be back at square one because of "mutations".

So I'm willing to cut them some slack based on bad messaging and bad media.

Agree though we should be less tolerant of performative nonsense from liberals who don't want to let go of having been "the responsible ones" for the last 14 months.

Its entirely possible that a mutation happen that reduces the efficacy of vaccinations to below 100% hospitalisations and deaths.

If your take away from watching whatever source is that it isn't either your source is wrong, or you watched it wrong.

Going off the general tone of your post, Id put some stock in the latter.

This is well put. No question some of this is going on.

How do you feel about vaccinated parents still being ‘responsible’ with unvaccinated children?
The Coronavirus Prep/Sweat Thread Part Omicron: Winter is coming AGAIN. Quote

I'm not a parent, and honestly am unknowledgeable regarding risks to children. If there's legitimate reason to be cautious then by all means. And honestly, as long as the caution is sincere, I'm sympathetic even if the caution turns out to be unreasonable.

I just agree with Baltimore that the performative stuff that is absolutely not based in sincere caution needs to die a swift death.

30-60 mins of labor + cleaning products has to be at least $5-10, no? If you're a budget hotel thats getting under $100/night, that can take a lot of pressure off your margins

No. The eye of the beholder does not get to have their own special truth just for them. Truth is science and pre-existing conditions/immuno-compromisations. Anything else is just your feelings.

Whooooosh.

Thinking people are performing = your subjective feelings 99% of the time. Your eye sees someone and judges them to be performing, 99% of the time, its due to your eye.

Capeesh?

Also just to be clear someone acting authentically on a mistaken idea/belief/whatevs is not performing.

If you disagree fine, but at least disagree with the thing I am actually saying.

I said pretty much the same as the bolded, and I don't disagree. I disagree about the 99%, but obviously that's not something either of us can quantify.

Yes. But one doesn't justify another, not even a little bit, so I'm not sure why it would even bear a mention.

No doubt, but there are basically no "it's just the flu" people in my orbit and a bunch of the "masks forever" people so this one hits closer to home for me. Guessing people like Baltimore and 27 might be in similar situations.

You're taking the word 'performative' very literally and not in the way most people use it in this context. I don't think very many people are out there consciously pretending to believe things they don't believe, but there are a lot who have formed some rather dubious beliefs, have no intention of ever giving any real thought or analysis to them, and whose sole purpose in expressing them publicly is not to inform or engage in open-minded conversation, but rather to collect 'likes' from their echo chambers or draw the ire of their opponents. They may not see themselves as performing, but their whole discourse is based on them uncritically repeating lines they got from someone else in exchange for applause.

Maybe if you hang out with a bunch of pretentious teenagers.

Adults on the whole just dont act this way, and if you think you see it on a frequent basis, its you.

Also Im not it anyway being too litteral. My statement is qualified by authenticity.

Someone who claims to do X because they are afraid of Y, but doing X to gain social status of some kind is a higher motivation than any genuine fear is "performing" by any reasonable use of that term.

Lol, are you familiar at all with social media? A bunch of grown-ass adults acting like pretentious teenagers is a pretty good description of it. And if you haven't noticed, it's basically been driving the political world for the last few years, including the pandemic response. But I guess that's on me. Not all on you, there are a significant cohort of people who think any views expressed that they dont align with are all virtual signalling or whatever.

Its one of the dumbest world views out there.
