More research shows that the Peruvian government had previously been reporting only 1/3rd of their deaths and admitted to 3x more last week.

I'll have to look for where it was, but I saw Stuart McDonald retweet a study by another actuary in SA, and I think the excess deaths were somewhere ~10m globally during the pandemic.

Thankfully he doesn't tweet 1000 times a day, so managed to find it easily enough

In our latest blog @lrossouw discusses recent modelling by @TheEconomist
which estimates ten million global excess deaths so far resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic.

He discusses strengths and possible limitations of the modelling.

Two people are dead and four of their coworkers were hospitalized after a Covid-19 outbreak swept through a government building in Manatee County, Florida.

The outbreak began in the IT department, according to Manatee County Administrator Scott Hopes, who is also an epidemiologist. Another person who worked on the same floor but in a different department also tested positive for coronavirus last week.

Of the six people infected, five were hospitalized. One employee who was in the hospital died and another employee who was not hospitalized also died,

The only exposed employee in the IT office who was vaccinated did not get infected, Hopes said.

“The clinical presentation gives me concern that we’re dealing with a very infectious variant that is quite deadly,” Hopes told Burnett.

Having to divert covid patients from out hospitals here in Springfield to KC and STL and LR.

160 patients currently in there.

65% of those currently in ICU apparently are under 40
From Chiefsplanet - posted by a hospital worker in Springfield, MO which is apparently ground-zero for the Delta variant in the US.

I know almost nothing about the Delta variant, is it more contagious and deadly to younger people? Is nature going to get some sweet revenge on the un-vaxxed?

Unclear if it's more deadly - but definitely more contagious.

Yeah, that’s about what we know atm.

One thing it’s showing here, is that vaccines work.

The wife and I got the rona. Details as follows, I will live the rest of my life never knowing for sure how I got it and it will drive me nuts:

- Both fully vaccinated, Pfizer, second shot was in March.

- Still generally didn't do very much risky stuff. Trying to highlight all the risky stuff I did here

- Went to our first restaurant post lockdown early June

- Cleaning lady was in the house on June 7th, masked, but we know she isn't vaxxed. We also mask while she is in the house

- I became a US citizen on June 9th, which involves sitting in a room full of like 100 other people for hours. Wife was there too. Everyone had a mask on.

- June 10th wife has a 103 fever and goes to urgent care for COVID check. They tell her not to get a test because she is vaccinated and they diagnose her with strep (her strep test was negative but they said thats normal for strep because there are a ton of strains and they only test for a fraction of them). I think I hit around 99.8 or something and feel mildly junky that day but nothing serious.

- June 12th she is feeling better and we have 3 friends in our house. All are vaccinated.

- June 13th one of the friends becomes sick and needs to go to hospital. He is positive for COVID

- June 14th both my wife and I test positive

It seems impossible that we gave him COVID, because that would mean a turnaround of 1 day between exposure and hospital. I guess the most likely scenario is that he gave it to us, but that means both my wife and I got rona'ed after a single exposure and were positive 36-40 hours post exposure.

Luckily we have had 0 symptoms post positive test.

Congrats on your citizenship, CMI.

I suspect that your second scenario is the more likely, or it was a coincidence and you got it independently.

"Congrats on your citizenship, CMI." thanks!

"But you might want to check mutual contacts. I don't know, is anyone still doing contact tracing these days?"

We contacted everyone. Of the 5 people in the house, 3 came back positive, one negative and one didn't test. Her argument was that the CDC doesn't recommend a test for vaccinated people, even with an exposure, if they are symptom free, which more or less means we are done contact tracing IMO.

Where was the hate on those? I'm a sarcastic ******* but don't wish COVID on anyone. Haven't had a COVID death in my circle but have had many relatives of friends experience long term hospital stays and a couple of long haulers.

I get pissed off when such a large percentage of people are not acting responsibly and getting the vaccine for the greater good. I don't care why people don't take it, that doesn't matter. It's collectively hurting all of humanity because we are allowing things like the Delta variant to occur instead of getting herd immunity and letting it die off.

Vaccines have proven to work and work extremely well (polio, smallpox, measles, etc.) and this particular group for COVID is proving to work better than anyone's wildest imagination and for so many people willingly **** it up royally sucks.

On a better note, I wish you well on your journey toward sobriety.
