Well if everyone was a super paro then this would never end. If I alone am the only one to get vaccinated in my whole country then it doesn't do jack. Only when we reach a threshold can my physician overlords deem us able to open again

8 Yankees and a comedian all got the J&J vaccine and the one of the nine that had symptoms, they were very mild. There are 50 people who travel together in the Yankees, 8/50. I don't know if the entire team got the J&J, but that would be within expectation.

That doesn't address your question, but it may or may not be worth pointing out.

I feel like this part is baked in. At the end of the day it's like someone else said, unvaccinated people should stay masked to prevent themselves. Vaccinated people don't need to worry because they're not at risk of either infection or spreading.

So if some clown wants to wander around unvaxxed and unmasked, the only one he's really putting at risk is himself.

Not necessarily. Mutations depend on having multiple hosts, so the fewer hosts there are out there the less likely mutations become.

It appears to, but isn't that highly prevalent yet, and doesn't evade the vaccines.

Might be a bit of a hump, but think that as long as we crack on all should be ok.

Also, they're now surge vaccinating in the areas it's most prevalent in the UK, and got a good few thousand done in Bolton today.

I have a (possibly very dumb?) question about the vaccine's effectiveness.

Does a vaccine with 95% effectiveness mean:

1. 95% of people who get the vaccine are fully protected, and 5% aren't protected at all. Like 1/20 people somehow have a body that "rejects" it.

2. Everyone who gets it is 95% protected. Which, not even sure what would mean, like perhaps 95% of virus that you're exposed to is killed when entering your body.

3. Something else?

No, that’s not what that means at all.

Yet I've had multiple people say to me with a straight(albeit dumb) face 'that means 5% of people still get covid, yet without the vaccine you have a 99.5% survival rate, so you know what man I'm good. I'lL TaKe My ChAnCeS hur dur."

I just said to someone today 'yah know, Texas opened up shop like 3-4 weeks ago and cases and deaths have been plummeting since(with 0 deaths for the first time since last March). I wouldn't be surprised at all if this big vaccination push was rushed out a little because if the numbers drop with no huge vaccination push people will just skip getting vaccinated 'for now', but scientists know that the Summer burn is coming one way of the other and they are far more worried about Fall/Winter."

Imagine dying from covid in the Fall. Lol.
