I am. And I'm more than a little confused by the hostility because it appears that we both agree that rapid vaccination is paramount.

This is a bad take that is getting a lot of press. Birth control does increase the risk of blood clots, but the way that it does so is not nearly as dangerous as the effect seen due to the vaccine. The vaccine is causing your immune system to respond to your own platelets as if they were a foreign body (specifically, platelet factor 4). This seems to be leading specifically to blood clots in the vessels supporting your brain, where birth control blood clots are generally in the legs and do not come with the same platelet problems. The sinus clots are going to be fatal a much higher percentage of the time.

Bottom line, not all blood clots are the same. The people who do these evaluations are very smart and have spent much of their lives looking at this kind of math. This is basically the same side effect found in the AZ vaccine and they fairly quickly restarted administration of it again. Most likely, once they gather data and crunch numbers that is what they will do here. They might recommend that younger people (who are far less likely to die from COVID) should only take Pfizer/Moderna but that the risk profile for older people means they should still take J&J.

Afaik Pfizer is the only vaccine currently available to sub-18 in USA#19. GCDS getting shot 1 in Boston last week is the reason I know that. Could be mistaken, but I think that is the case.

Same. I'm one shot in, but I turned down an indoor social function with friends this past weekend. Second shot later this week. After all this time, and with the light at the end of the tunnel this close, I don't expect I'll have any problem just continuing to follow all annoying precautions through the end of the month. After that, **** being careful. But like you, I'll continue wearing a mask when required. For a while longer I'll also generally seek to avoid any behavior that may cause people to be nervous if they're still in the middle of their vaccination sequences; we're not yet at the point here where everyone who wants to be jabbed will have already been able to do it, though that point is not too far away either.

Yep. In the UK, they have effectively stopped using AZ on patients under 30. I believe in Canada and France they have limited it to 55 and up. Some countries set it at a higher number. Its all different takes on the same math: If the side effect might kill x people in 1,000 you need to look at the risk of being unvaccinated and figure out what your cutoffs are. Another factor is what other vaccines you have available, which probably explains why the UK is more aggressive. They probably also consider the effect of restrictions on the number of people who will accept the vaccine.

That to me is the real tipping point. Once the only people who aren't vaccinated are the people who refuse to do so, I'm not inclined to do very much to protect them if they won't protect themselves.

yeah, i thought it might be a bad take. but i reconciled it with even if jnj clots are waaaaaay worse than birth control clots, the jnj clots are like 1 in a million iirc, and the birth control clots were like 1 in a 100, 1 in 300, 1 in 1000 or whatever

i'm not sure about this... to me it sounds similar to attitudes of anti maskers. supposedly even if you are vaccinated, and others are vaccinated too, there is still a risk of covid.

so isn't your attitude the same as anti maskers, but your line of acceptable risk of death is in a different place than their's? i mean i guess we all have a line of acceptable risk of death. the anti maskers line is lower than most of ours, but think 27's is lower than mine. idk.

Anti-maskers have been all about recklessly endangering others. 27 can speak for himself, but I think that most of us take a judgmental view of it not because they're flirting with dying themselves, but because of the effect their actions have on others. I can't see what he's advocating as rising to the level of reckless endangerment of others.

Realistically, even if I get did the vaccine, NOTHING is open in ontario. And it looks to be that way for the next 3 months+ probably longer, 6 months, who knows. So I might as well just stay inside and do nothing and not get tinnitus OR covid. Its not like im wandering around in nearby towns looking for ****ing covid. Out of the 100,000+ people who live in my area theres less than 100 covid cases lol. INSANELY LOW.

I guess you missed the memo where some of the people surviving COVID also developed tinnitus after catching the virus, among many other potential issues. Survival of COVID isn't the only concern.
