Suburban Denver. Nope, no risk categories. Probably one of the lowest-risk people in the country. (Being misanthropic has its occasional advantages).

I'll check walmart, it's not far. Just walked by there today, too bad I didn't see this earlier.

It isn't about me getting a shot early; I'd defer to anyone else if there was competition for a dose. I don't want any of them to go to waste, though.

It looks like quite a few of the walmarts in the Denver area are giving shots. You can't sign up for the leftovers waitlist online though. You'll have to call them, maybe go in person.

I'm amazed, what I assumed were young intelligent poker players with a strong grasp of reality and critical thinking. Obviously I was wrong.
This thread is 90% posts from 5-6 people who are cowards, room temperature IQ, and are just an embarrassment. Dare I say Man Up?

The wef just tweeted the other day that lockdowns are wonderful because the carbon emissions are lower than normal. People in this thread celebrating they took a vaccine for a virus statically 20x less likely to kill them than a car crash in a given year. Thumbs up dude!

I think most people would also get a vaccine that significantly lowered their odds of dying in a car crash.

I never fail to be saddened these days about how half the country has become so selfish.

Do these people just never consider that wearing masks and getting vaccines are to protect other people as much as, if not more than, themselves? There is no sense of shared sacrifice. No community. No we are all in it together. Just me me me me me me. ****ing disgusting.

~ 4 million doses of the J&J vaccine shipping tonight. Impressed that they stocked up that many in advance of the EUA no matter how confident they were that it was going to be approved. 20 million by the end of March. Supply is coming.

Then double it up with a dose of Zippy, and we end up where we are.

Let's say you're a 30 year old dude with a sweet hog, and you also ride a motorcycle. Your chances of dying from covid are basically none, and your chances of dying from a motorcycle accident are basically none.

Ya...... Sugar is doing more damage in my country than this virus as far as damage to bodies and years of years life stolen.

From what I hear from a Dr. I listen to regularly, N1H1 has stolen more years from human lives than Covid. That's a messed up stat if true. This guy caught both viruses while he was treating them, let's give moment to appreciate Dr.s cuz that's hardcore. If every 2+2er gave up on MSM this thread would be very different. It might be filled with scientific opinions....

In the United States, in 2020 the average life expectancy dropped by more than a year because of Covid. That is a very large move. There were only about 12,500 N1H1 deaths in the US. You need better doctors to listen to.

I read that article, and I can’t understand where this calculation is coming from.

Covid has killed about 0.15% of Americans. If the deaths were equally spread across all age groups, this would result in an overall decline in life expectancy of about 0.05 years. And since the deaths were heavily weighted toward older people, this number is actually much, much lower.

The article says it also accounts for things like drug overdoses and alcoholism as a result of the shut downs, but these would have to be like 100x more deadly than the actual virus for the total to make sense.

I'm not saying the calculation is right, but there has to be a lot of avoidable deaths from people scared to go the hospital too.

I don't know what article you are talking about. I assume there are plenty out there because this is an office government statistic, not some clown reporters trying to do it on their own. They used the same calculation that is always used.

I'm talking about the NCHS life expectancy report that I assume you referenced in your own post. Where else are you citing that life expectancy dropped a full year from?

https://www.cdc.gov/nchs/data/vsrr/VSRR10-508.pdf

Edit: Reading through the technical appendix, I think I may know where they are getting their figures from. It looks like they are estimating life expectance by looking -only- at deaths in the first half of 2020. In other words, they are assuming that 2020 represents the new normal going forward. I.e. life expectancy will drop by a full year if we have a new covid-size pandemic every six months for the forseeable future.

SH:

Likening an infectious disease to voluntary sugar consumption is utterly beside the point. If your point is that H1N1 is much more dangerous to children than covid, you're right -- but the statistic you cite is not correct. Also realize that long-term side effects from serious but survived covid are much higher (ie lung, heart) than H1N1.

I know, I shouldn't engage the troll.

Much more likely to die from covid than an asteroid therefore nasa should stop tracking earth bound asteroids. Can actually do these useless comparisons with just about anything and idk where the logic comes from

The point is that sugar isn't contagious. You only risk yourself when you consume it.

Personally, I'm fine with people risking themselves. I disagree with seatbelt laws, though I would be fine with laws that said "if you don't wear a seatbelt, all healthcare costs in case of a crash are on you. The public and/or your insurance company won't pay them."

Since your risky behavior IRT diseases is contagious, however, that's a whole different issue related to the maxim "your right to swing your fist stops where my nose begins."

All life expectancy calculations take current conditions and try to forecast them into the future. They do not predict the future. When a newborn is said to have a certain life expectancy it does not mean that all future events have been determined. All it means is that based on the current trend, a person of a certain age can expect, on average, to live X much longer. While useful for many applications, there is no doubt it has some flaws.

In this thread, I brought it up in response to a poster saying "N1H1 has stolen more years from human lives than Covid" The life expectancy measurement is just a way to show how much death Covid is responsible for - a year change is very unusual - as opposed to N1H1 that didn't even move the needle with 12,500 deaths.

Got my first dose of Pfizer today. Apparently in DE you take your first and second dose wherever you please and they don't schedule a second appointment for you. It's on you to then find the second dose.

Perhaps that's a way for more people to get the first dose?
