It’s obv a long running joke but I’ve often wondered if regging the disgusting live pokers environment theoretically benefits (or hurts?) the immune system, and if so is the effect substantial either way. I’d like to think we’re more geared for this virus than average person...

I dealt for 5 years and credit it at least partially for me hardly ever getting sick.

On the other hand this is ****ing with my ability to get paint and particle filters. The dumbs are stocking up on stuff that won't even help.

Right, which means the death rate could well be around the 0.1% of flu.

On the Diamond Princess they tested everyone and got 700 infections, of which 4 have died, so about half a percent. If we consider that a cruise-ship passenger list is going to skew elderly, it seems like the death rate in the wider population is going to be in the same ballpark of flu, i.e. well under half a percent.

According to the worldometer site we're at 83k cases and 2.8k deaths. To get your 0.1% death rate there would need to be 2.7 million+ undocumented cases so no, there is no chance corona has close to the same death rate as the flu. http://https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/

It’s 5/700 now on the deaths (another died) and 35 are still in critical condition so we won’t know for a month or more the real death toll of that 700

The doctor who died of it was hospitalized 1/25 and died 2/20 so it can take a month after hospitalization to die so

This thread has me more concerned than anything I've heard/read! Thanks, guys

(My husband was just confirmed to have "a" coronavirus. Four types are pretty common, apparently, leading to cold/flu-like symptoms. I did not get sick from him, but I rarely do.)

Just in case, we have two freezers full of food. I guess I should stock up on some canned items, too.

Heading to Vegas in late March. Still not worried, but I will keep up with my practice of only using my left hand to touch chip and cards (right hand for eating, drinking) and regular hand washing when I'm up from the table.

I don't know what all this talk about the masks is getting at, but an N95 mask is exactly what you need to protect yourself from getting infected. My wife is a nurse and was just telling me this exact thing the other day after their "corona virus prep meeting". They all have one.

No. Slowing the spread is important to not over stress the healthcare system. Also, some reports are coming out about possible re-infections which would be terrifying if true.

That is what you do with kids who have chickenpox to give them immunity intentionally. You apparently don't gain immunity from this stuff but are weakened against future exposures (from what I recall reading--so take with a grain of salt).
