Seriously what did they expect?

Hmm yea, gonna go sit in a room with strangers for 2 hours and Im not even getting drunk maybe laid etc.

I assumed when they released these films that there was some financial support or clever accounting behind it, whatever, that they were covered in some way for the super obvious **** revenue it was going to make.

I do want to see Dune though.

i don't think i'd go see tenet in the theater if someone paid me 5k. i'd think about it, but probably turn it down

i'd do it for 50k. any less, and i'd have to think about it.

if i could just wear scuba gear, then obviously i'd do it for a lot less

C'mon man...I don't know how you're rolling, but you're seeing it for 5k. Probably $500.

A study was published by Bonn scientists (and somewhere in the US I forgot where) that this year's Sturgis Motorcycle Rally is estimated to have led to about 270,000 infections which is 20% of all American infections in that timeframe. Nice job South Dakota.

... and subsequently debunked by the very conservative people at Slate. That study was moronic.

My friend told me her great aunt just died of covid, which she thought was weird because the aunt lives in a podunk town in S. Dakota where you wouldn't think it would be a problem. Well maybe not so weird.

I saw that too, unsurprisingly it didn't stop the media with running with it

I'd rather sit in a theater with 10 people, very spaced apart, and no one is talking/yelling/laughing without a mask on - than be sitting at an indoor restaurant where no one is wearing their mask the entire time at the table for hours at a time

We are celebrating my Dad's 71st birthday on the patio of our house with pizza and cake. My Mom brought over candles to make sure we had them for the cake. I told her it probably wasn't wise to be blowing out candles...

How is it going in your area of the US in regards to covid?

I'm in upstate NY and its starting to look pretty bad again after we got it under control. 2 local elementary schools had students test positive this week so they had to shut down. The college i went to had almost no covid in the area (kinda a backwoods area far from medium-big cities) but once the college kids came back, the # of cases are going up in the area and they had to ban greek life, sports, and even students can't eat in cafeterias (must bring food to room). Even other state schools are kind starting to show #s increasing.

IDK but this looks like it will be bad but its not like we couldn't expect that. I feel almost all schooling should have went online if possible. I currently work from home and i would say i'm more efficient bc I don't get bothered by other people. I know this isn't possible for all jobs, etc but I feel its goofy that some people are being forced to go into work when they work off a computer and really don't need to be in an office. I feel most bosses/managers are just worried they are getting no work while paying an employee which is comical bc almost everything generally can be tracked.

Finally, I had covid in May. I'm kinda worried at the moment. My mom is a nurse and i live with her (LOL at jkpoker1). She found out recently her and other nurses were exposed to a patient that had covid and they didn't have full covid gear on (she had a standard mask on however normally its much stricter in the health industry dealing with people w/ covid). The patient was comically in for a surgery, etc and now I find out my mom was exposed to a patient and with my luck i'll get it from her if she gets it again. We already had it.... It was like a bad flu- I was extremely lethargic for 1-2 weeks with high temp but everything went fine after time.

I really hope I don't get it again. I know some people will say you can't get it 2 times etc (its unknown) however one of my best friends who is a doctor said many doctors have gotten it 2 times. Supposedly there are many strains out and some are worse than others. Anecdotal but I trust people that are qualified.

You could have saved some words by saying "My mom had me blow out candles on my dad's cake during a pandemic."

blowing out candles is gross in the best of times. Imagine blowing all over a pan of lasagna before serving it up to everyone.

And let me guess she cocked her head like a dog that heard a weird noise and said, "Why?"

And at that moment you realized that for months she's just been humoring as you tried to convince her of the dangers of covid. Like you were 6 years old telling her some nonsense story - "uh huh, uh huh, oh I didn't know that, interesting, uh huh, uh huh".

(at least that's how it went with my mom)

Jk, if you had it in May I would be optimistic. 4 months of immunity is the pessimistic view and you should be good anyway.

This thread probably thinks that's gross and unhygienic too.

The trick is not to think about it.

People keep talking about the motorcycle rally (and rightly so), but colleges are also being very irresponsible. Bringing students back to campus is a purely economic decision and really hard to defend from a public health standpoint. For example Oneonta, a podunk town of 13K people in upstate NY, had to close their SUNY school when over 500 students tested positive. If cases spread to the local community, the town should really sue the school. Same for every other college town.

On a more optimistic note I saw the Pfizer GM is saying they will likely know if their vaccine works or not by the end of October, and if so it will be ready for start of distribution by the end of 2020. Assuming FDA rapid approval of course, which is almost a given if the Phase 3 results are positive. They have also expanded their trial from 30k to 44K people in the US because safety results have been so positive so far. The way the CEO is talking it up would lead one to believe he's fairly confident of the vaccine's prospects so far.
