we should have at least several hundred thousand who recovered months ago, right?

and of course you can like 5x the number for global cases
So what are you saying (ignoring the use of ifr, I get what you mean) but what's your point?
Let's say 20 million recovered. Need 10+ times that (200+ mil) for "herd" immunity so you can 10x that death count to be 1.2mil.

This increase in positive cases is definitely alarming, have the death rates increased too?

sorry my post was unclear. i meant that we should have a ton of people who have recovered, so we should have a good understanding of what happens to your body, at least a couple of months after you recover

It’s probably 20-30 million who have recovered in the US.

Is any systematic antibody testing being done on these confirmed recovered people?

27 called it at the beginning as I'm sure a lot of others but Florida will be the worst hit, a "bloodbath " if I remember correctly.

**** is frustrating...

I’m not sure what you mean by “confirmed recovered people”. Most of these people have no idea they ever had the virus. The estimates are based on smaller scale antibody tests. But anyone can get an antibody test if they want it. The easiest way I know of is just to donate blood and they will do it automatically.

Also ~30% of people who test positive never develop antibodies, and it's not clear what that means or doesn't mean for immunity. And even if you do have antibodies, no one has any idea how long they last.

The general working assumption is that if you fought off covid once, whether through antibodies or T-cells, then you probably won't catch it again for a while (1-2 years). That's mostly based on how other coronaviruses like the cold and flu behave.

Yeah bad phrasing there. I meant are people who were confirmed to have covid-19 and recovered being antibody tested? Seems like it could yield useful data.

I believe that's how they verify the accuracy of antibody tests. So yes I'm sure those studies have been done.

Ah okay, sounds like they are testing then. I know half a dozen people who tested positive with one requiring a short hospital stay, and none were contacted for any followup, which I found curious (though I suppose understandable, given limited resources). The local county health dept website basically states that the rate of false positives with antibody testing renders them practically useless.

Started funny, very, very quickly got scary and depressing.

We have idiots in my country, but it can't be anything near the intensity or % population of the US.

You really need to split into two countries. One can continue to evolve, the other devolve back to cave people (although I guess they don't believe in that anyway...)

I mean, yes, there are literally millions of recovered people. As NickMPK mentioned, the CDC is estimating at least 20 million in USA#9 alone. But the medical research seems to be focusing on prevention and treatment right now, not on long term effects.

I've seen a lot of anecdotal stories about "this lady has lost 60% of her lung capacity" or "this marathon runner is having a really hard time getting back to running long distances," as well as the "this guy was on death's door and now he's completely fine." I have not, however, seen any studies on what percentage of people fall into which bucket.

I gave people too much credit before the pandemic. Didn't realize so many stupid people. Not even funny.

pretty rough day here in malaysia, which has about 10% the population of USA#1. we had a whopping 10 new cases! guess you USA#1ers must have had about 100, given the 10x population difference from here.

probably down to only about 80% of people routinely wearing masks here now, but they are still required for entry at pretty much any building, as they have been the entire time.

13 days since the last covid-19 death here, but we still have 2 people in critical/serious condition so that 121 total pandemic death count could jump to 122 or even 123 at any time. also still 187 total active cases which is ofc pretty scary.

Spoiler:
you guys are so screwed

It's shocking. And consider these are the "smart" ones that are so sure they're going to court council to speak out.

Chop,
I'm in Thailand which is basically infection free now but it's just temporary for us. As soon as we start letting in foreigners without quarantine all of our numbers will jump up again.
Luckily in Asia people have been wearing masks for years for various reasons so there is no push back from the population on that.
