I was in the "same order of magnitude as the flu" camp, yes. But that would be balanced by the "3-5% deathrate" camp. The point is those two camps converged to (the correct) consensus on likely deathrates and measures to be taken way faster than the government experts.

I (and most of the thread) was in the "wear masks" camp earlier than most governments and way earlier than WHO too.

You were cheerleading for the UK approach IIRC - i.e. maximum disruption, shared struggle, Dunkirk spirit, mass clapping rallies with people standing unmasked right next to each other - and minimum effect. I haven't changed my mind that the UK would have been better off just doing Sweden than that nonsense.

But anyway - the point is that this thread did a better job of synthesising the different views, interpreting limited data and taking general lines on things than the most of the outside world, including people who are paid to know.

P.S. Also my first post said I would take a cheap holiday to Asia - actually going to Spain instead - so I am living up to my promise of going on holiday in a Covid hotspot (though it seems pretty safe now).

So what's with the wild weekly cyclical nature of the figures in Scotland and so many other places? Do nursing staff just go home for a long weekend and get to finding and counting the bodies through Tuesday and Wednesday?

Accusing someone of cheering for a strawman is a form of forum sophistry I have not seen before.

Its a weird one, because you dont even get close to characterising the UK approach (that I was never chearleading for, your fictional version or the actual one).

The UK approach has been catastrophic, because it did everything to slowly in a shambolic manner.

In a vacuum of policy terms there have not been any problems, execution has been a disaster, provision of PPE to health systems has been a disaster etc. Track and trace has been off the charts incompetence.

Other countries that have enacted UK policy and executed it properly have had very good results. UK policy has been fairly standard across the board. Its not really meaningful to call it UK policy in that regard given its universality.

The one issue is masks, but that is just a policy that leverages others, masks and no lockdown for example, would be a disaster.

Its a bit sad that you will be this disingenuous to deflect from how scorching red hot your original takes were, and how confidently you made them.

No, we are told that reporting lags at the weekend.

In any case, Scotland has been reporting low single figure daily deaths since the start of June. We get the odd few days of zero deaths, but even when the stats catch up it tops out at like seven deaths per day(so one can assume it's really like 2/3 deaths per day spread out over three days). Our all cause mortality is now well within historical tolerance, indeed lower than some of the previous five years. We have of course been slower to open up properly than down south, where they're still recording a decent amount of cases and death.

Your blood group seems to play a role in how intense corona could effect you (vulnerability).
Blood group A seems worst (50% higher chance of bad run, when infected), and 0 seems best (50% lower).

Sample size was 2000 in China, and 1900 in Italy+Spain, both saying roughly the same, hence seems legit. But the China study also says higher danger of getting infected with A, and less with 0, which EU-study didn't say (just spent a few min on research/flying over a few articles, though)

An increase in testing should lead to an increase in positives? On top of people commingling. A more important metric the death rate is stable or falling. Which hopefully speaks well to the world being able to get back on track.

I've had multiple blood draws for various reasons in the last year or so and I don't know my blood type either.

When I asked, my doc explained that they don't test for blood type and if I wanted to find out I should donate blood, they need to test for type and will tell you yours.

Yes if you’ve ever donated blood you can pull up the Red Cross app and it might be there. I gave blood 4 years ago and my blood type is there.

With job losses and COVID-19 cases mounting across the country, President Trump said in an interview Monday that there will be a second round of stimulus payments to Americans.

The president offered few details, however, saying only, “It will be very good. It’ll be very generous.”

When asked how much the payment might be, Trump said, “You’ll find out about it. You’ll find out.” Trump added that he thought the relief funds would receive bipartisan report and could be announced “in the next couple of weeks.”

I donated blood last week just for this purpose. The Red Cross also automatically does a covid antibody test now if you do this. (My results were unsurprising: I was O+, which is the most common type, and negative for antibodies.)
