The funny thing is that if we don't reach those numbers because of the widespread awareness and preventive measures that take place due to all of this overreacting;

All the people that had no part in making this positive outcome occur will just be like, "I told you so." and continue to believe their fantasy that there was nothing to be worried about.

And we'll continue to be just as ill-prepared for future events like we have thus far.

I don't think so. Some people will bareback and make jokes about getting AIDS. There has been no lack of public awareness of that disease.

People respond to things in different ways, and in his case, he responds to things as a joke. When 9/11 happened, people waited exactly 5 minutes to start telling jokes about falling towers.

The dude is 23 years old, and a bunch of 23 year olds are going to deal with life with jokes. Is it smart? Well, no, but he ain't 50.

I looked up some of the US media articles and there is a whole lot of 2000 word screeds with muddied up and confusing responses. One article claims there will be a 14 day quarantine on US citizens re-entering the country, which I suppose it true.

They call him out for not restricting goods. Gee, I wonder why that would be a bad idea.

The main part of the cruise is about sailing up to the arctic circle, northern lights, fjords etc - i.e. done from the boat, so assuming no outbreak it's not a dead loss if they can't get off in a few of the small towns on the way up. Assuming they have some way to get back to the UK eventually. I'm kind of surprised the Norwegians aren't counting this as domestic transport as it's just going up their coast between their own ports.

Parents were bored at home anyway so I suppose they'll be fine with being stuck on the boat for a few extra days if it comes to that.

The governor of Massachusetts said today that the state's testing capability is 4x what it was a week ago. This is a nice way of saying we still can't test for ****. They have announced 110 positive test results in the state thus far. Given the strict testing criteria what percentages of overall test have come up positive? 25%? Assuming all test have been taken in the last week, which they haven't, we're looking at ~60 tests/day. So now they can do 240 tests/day. Great!
