Now we know it’s serious that sports leagues are shutting fans out. NCAA just confirmed the tournament will be essential personnel only.

We may get updates from the lifecenter previously untested deaths if they can still do them. The update from king county includes one from 3/3.

Unfortunately they are up to 22 confirmed lifecenter deaths related to this now:

Case updates
Public Health – Seattle & King County is reporting the following confirmed cases and deaths due to COVID-19 through 11:59 p.m. on 3/10/20

234 confirmed cases (up 44 from yesterday)
26 confirmed deaths (up 4 from yesterday)
The four deaths being reported today were all among previously reported cases. These additional deaths include:

A woman in her 90s, Life Care Center resident, died on 3/3.
A man in his 90s, Life Care Center resident, hospitalized at EvergreenHealth, died on 3/5.
A woman in her 60s, Life Care Center resident, hospitalized at EvergreenHealth, died on 3/9.
A woman in her 90s, a resident of Redmond Care and Rehab, hospitalized at EvergreenHealth, died on 3/10.
Of the 26 deaths reported, 22 are associated with Life Care Center.

Inslee also cancelled school for two weeks for three counties if this hasn't made it out yet.

I think like every quarantined person in Lifecare except 4 tested positive. They should study those 4 and instantly come up with a cure - like in Outbreak. Right?

I think food beyond 1-2 weeks is not critical to hoard. No reports from China and Italy suggesting it was scarce, or that anyone was hungry. The basic infrastructure that runs the food processing chain up to delivery to supermarkets can and must continue, even if a general quarantine is declared. Worst comes to worst, the national guard will distribute rations from emergency stores instead of letting Americans die of hunger and rioting. The main reason to hoard food is to avoid having to go out to supermarkets every week and avoid potential exposure.

Tell me where I'm wrong.

Somehow America has ****ed up testing way beyond any other 1st-world country (and whatever China is considered these days) - AINEC.

They could possibly find a way to **** up food as well.

Keep an eye on Iran's food situation I guess.

Cross-post from some Q&A site, but I think it's significant. The guy answering is telling what happened when he picked up his wife from an airport in Shanghai, after she returned from Japan.

https://www.quora.com/With-1-700-dea...1598&srid=zj0g

It has some photos, but I'll copy / paste the quick points here:

Every passenger would go through strict screening and be categorized into three groups. Group A was domestic transit passengers and have to fly or take HSR to some other cities in Shanghai. After cleared with ID registration, flight ticket/train ticket, self declaration and health check, they would leave, and their route was monitored until received by check-in counter, and such info would be relayed to their next stop. When they arrive, the health department would be expecting them at the gate and carry on the escort.

Group B was for passengers leaving for other cities by car, same procedure followed

My wife lived in Shanghai, so she belonged to group C. She finally got off the airplane, three hours later. She went through very strict screening and register via mobile phone /app

Double checking the registration, my address, and confirmed how my wife prepared to travel back home in Shanghai. When they knew I would drive her back home. The staff(health agency staff, police and airport staff) came out and escorted me to the airport garage, registered my ID, took note of my license plate and made sure we got in the car and drove directly home without stop in the middle. It was kind of interesting when my wife and I were escorted by a group of people, as if we were VIP. Foe those who did not have family pick up, there will be cars to drive them home.

He told us during the 14 days self-quarantine, we could not leave our apartment. Property management and security staff would help us pick up delivery, food and garbage every day, and if we need anything just give them a call, and they will help us do it, so we do not need to go out. He told us CDC would come tomorrow to check everyday, and even I would have to go through the same self-quarantine and could not go to work until CDC advises otherwise.

for those who do not have permanent residence in Shanghai, they would register and be sent to a facility where they would go through 14 days of quarantine.

But why the urgency, if most people survive?

Here's why: Fatality is the wrong yardstick. Catching the virus can mess up your life in many, many more ways than just straight-up killing you. "We are all young"—okay. "Even if we get the bug, we will survive"—fantastic. How about needing four months of physical therapy before you even feel human again. Or getting scar tissue in your lungs and having your activity level restricted for the rest of your life. Not to mention having every chance of catching another bug in hospital, while you're being treated or waiting to get checked with an immune system distracted even by the false alarm of an ordinary flu. No travel for leisure or business is worth this risk.

Now, odds are, you might catch coronavirus and might not even get symptoms. Great. Good for you. Very bad for everyone else, from your own grandparents to the random older person who got on the subway train a stop or two after you got off. You're fine, you're barely even sneezing or coughing, but you're walking around and you kill a couple of old ladies without even knowing it. Is that fair? You tell me.
Worth posting on your social media to try to change the minds of some...

The institution that I teach at is requiring all faculty to get every course online by March 30th (our Spring break is late, so that's the Monday after Spring break).

We have ~20,000 students in Denver. We are not yet closing student support services on campus, but if there's a case they can't track the source of in the Denver area I'd expect our entire campus closes.

I'd expect many more schools to follow this pattern.

China provided door to door food delivery every single day. A quarantine is not very useful if people are all running to the groceries. Do you think the current US government can provide door to door food delivery on a mass scale?

With regards to time period, all of Wuhan and most of Hubei are still under strict quarantine, ie can't leave your house, since Jan 25.

This is a virus just like the flu which infects about 25 Million people in the United States each year (and a billion worldwide), with about 12,000 to 60,000 DEATHS each year and just like coronavirus, most of the deaths are the very old and very sick. About 80% of the people that get it have a mild case and recover without any hospitalization, and only about 1% die from it but the way this is being portrayed is like if you get it, your dead.
The NBA just Cancelled their season over this. It's gonna get much worse and I'm not talking about the virus, I'm talking about the economy. The hysteria by the media is doing about a million more times more harm than the virus itself and people should start to wake up and educate themselves instead of listening to fake news and propaganda.
