Italy's population is also significantly older. which has a significant impact in seriousness of the disease. that is at least in part why korean mortality rates are .7 per cent but italy's are about 5 per cent. USA#9 is nowhere near italy in this respect: italy's population is the second-oldest of any country in the world.

Not even sure what to do about visiting my folks. They are both over 80 and live several hundred miles away. All I can think of is, what if I have a pre-/asymptomatic coronavirus, and gave it to them when I visited. I mean, I feel fine right now but if I got them ill and threatened their lives I'd never forgive myself.

Suzzer just want to say you are doing great work here (as are others) and I appreciate it.

I'm finding people's attitudes on this are one or the other. Either taking it quite seriously or not taking it seriously much at all, with not much between. I'm starting make judgements about the people in the later group and how I feel about them. This is making me feel guilty in way that I haven't really felt before. There seems to be some sort of self preservation mode that has kicked in even now as early as it is in this situation which is really becoming unprecedented in our lifetimes. I think you would have to go back to WW2 to see the worldwide angst at this level and even at that not all countries were involved or all persons threatened.
