I dunno. If, like in the UK, your stated(and then denied) goal is herd immunity maybe it's better to have half the population out there getting sick and then becoming immune while the other half hunkers down.
Also while it is still utterly terrifying and sad beyond belief, it's somewhat reassuring to know that the average age of the dead in Italy is still 78.5 and the vast majority have comorbidity of some description.
It feels awful thinking about/typing all of this; any option right now seems like a sophie's choice. The infuriating thing is that it seems even now, for a vast portion of the population, the gravity of this still isn't apparent. One of my friends texted a group chat I'm in just today, asking if anyone was up for a poker night midweek. "We're not on lockdown yet".
