Preserve your money, as you're going to need it.

Hightail it for KY now if that's where you can hole up with shelter and food for the next several months (perhaps the rest of 2020). This is about survival 'bro. Your landlord won't throw your roommates to the street. They will pay their rents and life will go on for the three of them. Businesses take on risks everyday. Not getting paid for a service is part of that risk and happens every second of every day.
Yep, and I think anyone who is working from home right now should consider dipping out for a few months until this tides over. If you're out of work and won't get a job in a hospital or can't find remote work, you'll be out of work until at least June, and likely, more closer to August. It doesn't matter what your profession is.

I'm making calls to people I know in other parts just in case I want to dip, though I'll continue to pay my rent so I have a place to come back to where all my stuff will presumably be safe.

Even though the governor said martial law is unlikely, every single restriction in LA and CA were announced at 5pm and enforced at midnight. That's way too much uncertainty. The way our politicians are just dropping sudden bombs like this is horrible.

When people who are normally anti-gun zealots are out looking to buy guns, especially in LA, it's not much longer before it's not safe to stay. A lot of people are out of work, everything is closed, and I don't really know how long it can go before the entire city collapses.

Nevada officials: Most people should not seek COVID-19 testing

"Nevada state government had this to say Friday to all of the people clamoring to be tested for the new coronavirus:

Many of you should stop trying to be tested.

“If you have symptoms, assume you have COVID-19. Persons with mild or moderate symptoms should not seek medical care nor try to get tested,”

"“Staying home can save the life of another Nevadan.”

“Testing is not needed if you have mild or moderate symptoms,” the guidance continued. “It will not change clinical care. COVID-19 testing should remain for people who need to be hospitalized for severe illness.”

Yeah just go home and infect everyone in your house. And while you're "self-isolating" even though you're not sure if you have C19, your family members are going to work and the grocery store spreading it asymptomatically. That'll work.

In California, people tend to drive around instead of use public transport. Same deal in Florida and Miami, so it's much more difficult to trace.

A more sinister thought is that this virus has mutated and what's in New York is different than what's in Nevada.
Except SF where almost no one owns a car.

Yes, some states are ramping up. But there are still plenty of stories of people being treated like they have C19 who still can't get tested.

The current official policy of the state of Kansas is not to test anyone in the Kansas City region because they just assume everyone there already has it so there's no point.

Agree. I think we agree also that we should be doing population-level testing at this point.

Or go and be a dick to my roommates but save myself from getting locked down in a massive population where resources might be scarce in a few weeks? Who knows the answers to these ridiculous questions? My family is saying get your ass outta there.
Considering your current standing with new roommates I would listen to family. Tough call though. That's a long drive.

Going to a waiting room at your doctor's office or clinic or emergency room seems like a dick move if you don't absolutely have to.

I wouldn't be giving this advice if we weren't in the midst of a pandemic, potential martial law, and who knows the hell what else in the near future.

Thanks guys. My brother said his house is not a go because his girlfriend is freaking out and has asthma and wants to get near nobody. Figures. CA is not a good spot to be in with no job prospects. I went from 3 pending job offers to 0 in a matter of a few days. I figure I'll make a decision by Sunday as I think there will be a lot more information by then.

I agree with Dave that when people who hate guns are out considering getting a gun (I was myself actually and I am not pro gun even though everyone I grew up with is and I've shot a lot) then things are not good.

Like I said yesterday, the government or state needs to come out and halt any bills and not just suspend them for a month, but say they won't have to be paid so people can rest easy and actually sit in their homes knowing its ok not to be at work. It'll hopefully stop the impending pandemonium that will happen in the next few weeks when death tolls start rising.

Amazon is looking to hire 100k ppl. Talk to someone who can hire for Amazon and let them know you are ready now to relocate anywhere in the continental USA and start right away after driving there.

It's probably a good policy. I mean millions of people have it I imagine. Save the tests for people with actual serious symptoms. If someone is sick and is not sure they have it, they should stay at home anyway since they are sick. Only would make sense to test them after they don't have symptoms or are getting better.

They are doing the exact opposite of what you describe. They are refusing to test anyone from the part of the state with an outbreak in order to test more people in parts of the state with no known cases.
