They had disposable masks at the drugstore today. Box of fifty masks for $45, price gouging.

I'm surprised good quality (lolfabric) cloth masks are not being sold (or handed out free, one to each person who wants one) at supermarkets and drugstores. Are they scared of liability?

It's a total failure of government to expect seniors to order masks online then wait a month to receive them.

It's also a failure of Girl Scouts. If you can sell cookies do the same thing for masks! smh

Are you sure he's not telling tall tales because he finds it hilarious to make people worry about him (based on his history here)?

I noticed he was posting all day on Monday which was supposed to be the day he was having lung surgery. In two weeks he will probably come back and say his surgery was postponed to a different day and he is recovering slowly blah blah blah.

I just hope he includes something fun like a near-death experience in this one.

Typical right-wing "wah wah I want things to be the way they were, nowwwwww!" rant. Also a good dose of the Quarantine Paradox: 1.quarantine worked. 2. See, we didn't need the quarantine.

I paid a similar price for a box of 50 masks. They're not really "disposable", are they? After you use them, I think you can put them in the oven at 170F to kill any virus and use them again.

It seems like very few people have been willing to adjust their positions based on new evidence. You see this “paradox” just as much with supporters of quarantines, where any bad news is evidence that the crisis is getting worse so we need to continue the quarantines, while any good news is evidence that the quaratines are working so they need to be continued.

I’d think New York is actually in better position to reopen than most other heavily populated areas, because the immunity they have accumulated will not go away if they reopen. That said, Cuomo’s reopening plan seems reasonably well-thought out in its timing, choice of metrics, and transparency.

Thanks, I was planning to hang it in the sun off the car visor clip or rearview mirror, but oven sounds better.

I know this will be a very unpopular opinion in this thread but if you look at the data on non-N95 masks it's clear they don't stop the virus.

To minimize the few random large droplets that a cloth or surgical mask might stop it may actually be better to promote a minimal or no-talking around people outside of your household group rule (only talk on the phone, not in person, not in restaurants or churches, etc.) instead of wearing masks. That way there's no extra danger from having to touch and adjust the mask (and people won't wear masks in restaurants anyway). And of course covering coughs and sneezes in the crook of your elbow. (Spoiler: People who are coughing and sneezing are taking off their masks to do it, so don't think masks are helping much with that!)

I also think masks make people talk more forcefully than normal just to be heard, so that sprays more droplets around the sides of the mask, because most people don't have a properly fitted mask.

But don't worry, despite these opinions I still wear a mask for you people.

Would you want to play live poker this way?

For how long?

How many recs will want to play like this after the initial wave of people who just want to get out of the house?

You breathe through your uncomfortable mask, you can't see as many tells (can you even see the board very well through dirty/scratched up plastic dividers?), no social interaction, thirty hands per hour, maybe no dealer changes?

Might as well play online?

This is an old one but I missed it at the time:

Nudists on Czech beaches Reprimanded for Not Wearing Face Masks

I particularly like how a team of three of them decided they all had to go and reprimand the blonde together.

About unemployment, they have it all figured out in this thread:
https://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/2...-bill-1765416/

You file a tax return for 2019 before July 15, 2020 (or extend it to Oct 15) and that's your proof. Based on your 2019 income you get unemployment (plus $600 weekly through July), and it might be extended.

If you need help filing as a self-employed professional gambler, these guys advertise at the WSOP: https://kondlercpa.com/services/poker-tax-consultation but it might be easy to do yourself with tax software.

Hospitals are not overwhelmed; most of us will be exposed anyway since we can’t sequester until there’s a vax; and we know which groups need protection from worst outcomes. Is the public health benefit from broad lockdowns at this point worth such extreme damage to livelihoods?"

Best Buddy,

This could be considered exile-worthy. I'm going to have to think about it, but don't be surprised when it happens.

NYP has no journalistic integrity whatsoever(who does really?), as it is owned by Rupert Murdoch, founder of Fox News.

Been meaning to post up to last Tuesday and announce ending it, since total cases and deaths don't really convey the story any longer.

If things go to **** in wave two I will probably pick back up, or track hotspots or whatever.

Boy, that liberal Bloomberg writer really triggered you!

Rather than even address his arguments, you moved the goalposts and cherry-picked your data based on your personal definition of....'driving distance,' which seems completely ******ed.

Nobody believes that Sweden has the lowest death rate *today* by not having lockdown, that's not the issue at all whatsoever. And it's intellectually dishonest to suggest otherwise.

The questions are: 1) Will Sweden be better off IN THE LONG RUN, which is unknown but worth deeply considering, and

2) Why do similar countries with lockdowns like Belgium and Holland have double the fatality rate, and approximately the same DPM?

Oh yeah, you can drive from those countries to Sweden as well. Malmo to Groningen is 7.5 hours or the same as Philly to Research Triangle which I've done dozens of times.
Antwerp is 10 hours away or Philly to Myrtle Beach which isn't even an uncommon drive in the PA/NJ area.

And then you cherry-picked even more by ignoring the data that didn't fit your worldview. Sad.

Why don't you just yell 'Fake News!' every time the facts hurt your feelings?

Grandmaster Naj, the traffic flow between those countries during the lockdown was without a doubt far less than interstate travel in America, probably less during non lockdowns as well.

I like you but it's pretty rich to accuse someone else of moving goal posts and cherry picking and follow up with that statement.

The death toll is very heavily weighted to the over-70s and particularly the over-80s and may be well be to do with care homes and the lack of restrictions on visiting, on social distancing in all areas of society, on staff moving between different sites, on PPE and so on.

Sweden's approach does not seem to have succeeded, despite the advantage of low population density. It looks as though a similarly lax approach in more densely populated countries might well have been catastrophic.
