It would've eventually happened anyway due to staff shortages over vaccine mandates like in MA unfortunately

For those interested, the epidemiologist Katelyn Jetelina is a great follow on Twitter. Very thorough, easy-to-follow, and non-hysterical information on the new omicron variant.

Here's her latest post summarizing the good and bad news that we know so far:

New Covid variant 'likely' already in the United States
This is never going to end.
Only 50 - 60% fully vaccinated.

No. They set a rule in place that if hospital capacity hits 90 per cent, only then are elective surgeries canceled. Didn't seem like an unreasonable rule to have in place, but I just skimmed the article quickly and could be wrong here.

A little reaction to the vaccines. Woke up in the middle of the night, felt chilly. Felt a little nausea as well. Pulled the blankets around me, but didn't get back to sleep for several hours.

Upon reawakening, some joint & injection site soreness, a little bit of runny nose, tired eyes, etc--like a mild cold/flu.

Don't recall having much of a reaction the first time around. Of course, I can't attribute this to Moderna (vs Pfizer 1st), the combo of COVID & flu vaccines, or what. I suspect it'll pass shortly. Just feel blah, probably a lot of laying around today.

I did the Moderna+flu booster in late Oct after the Pfizer 2-fer originally in Mar/Apr. Zero negative reactions. None positive, either. I was tole I'd be magnetic! Total BS!.

Hope it doesn't get worse for you, Dog.

Thanks, AZ, I appreciate that. It's early, but disappointed in the (so far) lack of interesting mutations/magnetism/whatever.

We have had almost complete lack of mitigations since July 19.

2 Confirmed cases of Omicron and masks are back, even though we have had around 35-50K a day Delta for months.

Interesting and enlightening, but getting the name wrong is a bit of egg on face. Its not Nu its Omicron.

She literally said that at the time of writing the WHO was convening to name the variant. You can't blame her for not knowing in advance that they'd arbitrarily skip Nu.

Some early indications that virulence is actually less or the same: https://www.theguardian.com/world/20...nt-vaccination

Quote:
“It’s all speculation at this stage. It may be it’s highly transmissible, but so far the cases we are seeing are extremely mild,” she said. “Maybe two weeks from now I will have a different opinion, but this is what we are seeing. So are we seriously worried? No. We are concerned and we watch what’s happening. But for now we’re saying, ‘OK: there’s a whole hype out there. [We’re] not sure why.’”
It's real popular to baselessly speculate about a mutation being "horrifyingly" (seeing that word a lot) deadly and transmissible. Not popular to speculate that maybe we're at the "it's like a common cold now" phase that was always a possible off-ramp.

You are the guy who went into a spittle flecked rage when it was suggested that Delta might be more than a complete nothing burger, so of course you are going to lazer focus in on that quote by a GP.

Given how horrifically badly you got Delta wrong, I am amazed you have the balls to still show your face itt, but then again peoples ability to rationalise their prior terrible takes is a constant on the internet.

Also same levels of virulence is still pretty virulent. Its pretty much settled that its highly transmissible.

baltimore jones take is that "we don't really know for sure yet. we need more info"

which i thought was objectively true lol

*if* omicron is nightmarishly contagious, *and* it is also fairly easily dealt with by new mrna vaccines(like that article suggested).... then people who have access(and willingness) to take vaccines will be protected, and unvaccinated people will be dealing with a nightmare pandemic

some of the unvaccinated will be so because of misinformation, or health reasons... but vast, vast majority of unvaccinated will be so because of wealth inequality and intellectual property patents for profit

I'm going to do my research on a poker forum. Is there a timeline from when you had your second Moderna to when you should get a booster?

edit: NM 6 months
