Re: The Coronavirus Prep/Sweat Thread Part Δ: The Hunter Becomes The Hunted

In MA and everything is pretty much back to normal. If someone asks me to please consider wearing a mask, like the guy I do a lot of work with whose wife is pregnant, I will gladly do so, but trying not to go back to full mask mode. I'm sure I will in a hospital forever now, and will gladly put one on if anywhere asks(or decide not to go in), but yah.

Also don't see myself going to a packed indoor club or music venue. Just not worth it to me.

We've had an indoor mask mandate for a few weeks in Boston now and I'm fed up with ignoring the anti-maskers just waltzing into my gym, Target, grocery store, etc. without a care in the world then playing dumb if anyone confronts them about it. I'd rather get perma-banned from a place than have one of these clowns infect someone because a store employee was feeling indifferent or scared to confront them.

Bad enough a few pub poker games I play in outside of Boston, in towns without an indoor mask mandate, have unvaxxed guys bragging about not getting the vaccine and refusing to wear masks anywhere. I've made peace wearing an N95 at these things.

So there is a mask mandate in Boston, but not surrounding towns? Sounds like a recipe for apathy.

Wore a mask into the post office last weekend. If I'm making that conscious decision, I guess Target and grocery are no different. The whole mask mandating gets blown out of the water with restaurant and bar protocols. They need to be more sciency imo.

LA has indoor mask mandates but I see people w/o them all the time and no one messes with them. I think we're getting close to standing them down.

Hearing the mandates work is pretty cool. The dreaded ‘Data From Israel’ will be back this week and it’s not great

In other outlier news, remember that one poll that showed Gavin Newsom down 9?

There term Outlier can not be used if you are only comparing two data sets.

How much comfort can USA get from Israel being an "outlier" when it still has less vaccination than Israel, and has a much higher ratio of deaths to cases than Israel?

Problem is the USA shares two of most important differentiators with Israel that set them both apart from the UK, specifically that the two-shot regime was issued three weeks apart (vs 8 weeks for UK, which a previous study demonstrates yields a much stronger and durable antibody response), and a large unvaccinated population commingling with the vaccinated population.

I don't really get what is happening in Alberta compared to other places, because we're at ~75% double vaxxed here and cases are still exploding. It's like greater than 80% unvaxxed at this point, but still, you'd think we're well above the threshold needed for community immunity.

My only guess is that the unvaxxed are concentrated together in the rural towns and smaller cities, as opposed to spread out across the entire province.

Re: Tennessee leads the nation in new COVID-19 cases per capita

Quote:
Julie McDivitt's son, Jacob Rodriguez, started feeling sick in late July. he felt like he "had COVID."

"Felt really tired, headache. Couldn't taste nothing. It was awful," Rodriguez said.

But his symptoms didn't raise any red flags for mom.
Even after a positive COVID test, she expected her athletic son to easily overcome COVID

"Day 2, fever hits, and it never let up," McDivitt said. "Fourteen days straight, he ran a fever."

McDivitt took Jacob to Le Bonheur Children's Hospital in Memphis

McDivitt said Jacob had not been wearing a mask properly and, like her, is not vaccinated.

From the link above:

"On Friday, he made his return to the field, running out with his teammates, wearing jersey number 41."

Is there some sort of significance to him wearing jersey number 41 that I'm missing?

Ah the loophole has been found. Force unvaccinated fans to travel and have unvaccinated players pay for it.

FDA panel votes 16-2 against boosters for people under 65. Not a binding vote.
