Nope. There is no way out of this now, short of shutting it all down again. This is going to go WELLLLL into 2021, if not 2022. Looking back, a three month shutdown from March 15-Jun 15 will feel like something most everyone would have been happy with, once the reality of that window we missed becomes clearer. We are now well and truly ****ed and I'm kind of ****ing salty about it at this point.

even in montana where the governor made it mandatory a good portion of the people in stores go in without a mask,
in restaurant they take them off as soon as they sit down and leave them off even after dinner while still hanging around. so no hope to contain.

Pretty much sums up my thoughts. I said exactly that in march, "just shut it down for a couple of months and we'll have a chance to get past this". Like nicholas said, we should still do what we can and say we ****ed up and we need to backtrack all the way. I dont know logistically how wed figure it out with supplies as there would be another mad dash for everything and people are greedy and would go back 5 times in 2 weeks to rebuy stuff.

If we continue down this road of just expecting masks and slight restrictions on restaurants to solve this issue we're on big trouble barring a vaccine in a few months. I'm afraid we might legit have to get used to a new way of life for several years.

I have the same concern.

Just think back to 14 DAYS TO SLOW THE SPREAD with a goal of opening up the churches by Easter(Apr 12th). We shut down restaurants on March 15th ffs. We were barely two weeks in and these ****ing momos were already looking to open up in two weeks.

Like Ive said a couple times, and nobody responds to.... we just need an ACTUAL lockdown for a month. October 1 through Halloween, EVERYBODY (except our sportsman, plox) is closed up in their house. We have 50+ days to be prepped for October. November this **** is over.

Bingo... without a real lock down the only thing you will accomplish is putting the final nail in the coffin of all the small business owners who barely made it thru the first one.

There is absolutely no way the people in the south would ever let a full blown lockdown happen.

And after that lockdown, not all cases are gone (especially with international travel) and so it comes back.

It buys us some time and we could do a cadence of locking down every 4 months for 1 month if the cases then don’t get too large in the 3 months we are back open.

While I would be fine with the idea and agree, there is literally ZERO chance that ever happens with the election on Nov 3rd. 0.0% chance, regardless of even 100k more people dying between now and the end of Sept.

Therin lies the problem. Biden(should he win) wouldn't even be able to implement anything resembling a shutdown until the handover in January.

afaik there is 0 evidence that a 1 month lockdown, or even 6 month lockdown would resolve the situation. you can't have a magical lockdown that gets rid of the virus. it will survive, and then spread again when you open back up.

I 100% agree ^^. If trump wins in November, America is over. Christmas trees will be mandatory with a long sentence for non-compliance. Okay, maybe not the Christmas tree thing, but this democracy thing is done.

Spain had an actual hard lockdown for two months and they are now getting 6,000 new cases per day, which would be 40,000 cases in the US on a per capita basis and is doubling every week right now.

I can’t believe anyone is suggesting that we should change our way of life for years because of this virus. If you don’t believe there will be a vaccine in the next 6 months, wouldn’t the better outcome be for the majority of the population to just get the virus and move on with our lives as usual?

Nevertheless, it seems like all the vaccine news so far has been much better than expected, so it may be reasonable to put up with a lot if it is only for a few more months.

y'all are full of FUD. I'm far more optimistic with respect to treatment and vaccines than most ITT. Both of my children are on their way back to college in the next two weeks, with our approval.

We clearly understand treatment now far better than we did in March and phase one and two vaccine trials have absolutely created antibodies in almost 100 per cent of trial candidates. Those are obvious good signs, though not conclusive.

I agree that our testing regime is foolish and that we ought to be pooling. But I think we'll be through this for the most part by June of 2021.

I also predict that this year's flu season here in USA#9 will result in the lowest number of flu deaths in the last twenty years.

That works out to around 1600/day. I personally have a bad feeling we are going to get back to >2K/day at some point.
