i'm actually with you on this, not having a tv or a tv connection drastically reduces the amount of time wasted just zoning out with tv
for example, when i spend lots of time with other people, like beyond social occasions like staying at their house over the weekend etc and they don't have that entertain the guests mentality, i've noticed that having the tv on is basically a default setting for most people. even if they aren't actively watching it or have something in mind, they'll just turn it on and browse until they find something agreeable
cord cutting removes waste and makes your viewing far more efficient, you watch what you want to watch like sports or the new hbo miniseries but then don't spend each evening after work surfing channels and deciding to watch those frasier reruns for the umpteenth time - instead you end up doing something better with that time and if you do still want that background noise, it now becomes audiobooks and podcasts - if i have a tv right there, I'll have frasier as my background, if no tv connection and I'm forced to seek out a background noise source, now it becomes Dan Carlin's Hardcore History or something like that
it's not at all about removing visuals as a form of entertainment, it's just removing the "what do I do with my life for the next 3 hours" type of tv watching
and let's be real, transferring that time to 2+2 isn't really much of a difference
