Hard to beat 22” Weber kettle at $165. Really flexible and if you get a cover and treat it decent should last 20 years. Once you get how the vents work you can really cook from under 250 to over 500 without much trouble. The ash cam sucks but I haven’t found a kettle grill with a good one yet.

Good article on using the vents to control temp.

I’d also consider maybe getting the slight upgrade if your going to be moving it around a lot as the wheels aren’t good on the standard version.

I’d consider this SNS kettle grill, some really nice features but don’t like how they haven’t stocked them yet and are only do preorder.

That’s kind of what I’m thinking nit. My current is 15+ years old and is the cheaper version with just the tray for ashes. I always like to check if there’s some beautiful tech out there I haven’t read about!

I got this two Christmas back and I honestly was just as happy with the 22” a Weber kettle.

I like the storage below the table that comes out. Otherwise probably to control temp on the Weber and I actually prefer the non cast iron grates. The stainless simple grate is easier to clean, I think is easier to cook on and heck it’s cheap to replace.

If I actually had a backyard I’d probably make the investment and get an offset smoker or ceramic grill but would still have a kettle to grill a quick steak or cook some burgers.

Damnit I have a backyard!

Offset smoker isn’t in my plans though. I just don’t like BBQ that much. Still considering a Kamado, I just think I won’t use it enough to justify the price. If it doesn’t do quick grilling any better than a regular kettle then I’ll probably just get myself the nicer Weber kettle.

I actually agree, which is weird. I mean most people just buy some random cut and throw it on the grill - but for people here if you buy even a decent cut, grill or reverse sear it and let it rest you're getting some grey band and medium at worst

I assume ceramic grills are much easier to get to temp and to hold a certain temp and probably have a bigger extreme in temps. That being said for basic grilling probably not any better than a basic kettle grill. If you don’t use a grill more than once a month and don’t intend to make something like a. brisket than yeah just get a basic Weber kettle.

My friend keeps trying to convince me to get a big green egg, but I can’t really see the benefit. The Weber plus a few aftermarket tools (Slow N Sear, good thermometers), and I think it’s close to as good and obviously a lot cheaper and most importantly low maintenance.

Went with SV so I could chill out and play Animal Crossing. Still, pretty happy with this sear since searing SV steaks can be tricky.

Leet as always. If you don't already, really recommend a little maldon or whatever flake/finishing salt just prior to serving.

First 'steak' for a looong time, saw 2 3lb rib roasts marked down from £19 to £4.50 each so i grabbed both of them, froze one and cooked the other.

bad sear but pleased with the interior. I have a LOT of cold roast beef to eat now

Guy from Bon Appetit cooks a ribeye every way you should (and mostly shouldn't).

Love this thread!

You haven’t lived if you haven’t tried a laser steak. However if you try a laser steak you may not live. Quite the conundrum.

Curious if anyone skips the sear with certain cuts.

I sous vided a tritip sizzler tonight - it was lean and tender. Started searing but gave up quickly and just sliced it up. Tasted great. Didn’t miss the sear.

I’d definitely sear a nice ribeye ldo

So we need someone to try the dehydrated and then sear & smoker then sear (?maybe that has been done ITT)

Havent checked up here lately much, but Bdv seems to be crushing still, damn.

A bit disappointed that the foretold development that posters in 2020 are growing their own cattle didnt come true.

Splurged for angus rib-eye at 22€ /lb, glad I didnt mess it up (over-cooked one other unlucky piece of meat earlier). Pan all the way.

^Oh wow a tad bit over done for my taste but a more than fair trade fir that great sear.

I wonder if COVID beef pricing has impacted steak submissions? I know for me beef proving is up a good 50%. My local grocery for the past few years would have for Memorial Day $7.99 to $9.99 per lb. Prime NY strips and usually Prime ribeyes for $1-$2 more. This year it was $15.99. I know still normal pricing for most but I didn’t stock up. Also up to recently the meat counter was closed so I couldn’t get 2”+ cuts.

Yea agree, was aiming a bit under that. Maybe too much heat so that in the last moments rises quicker than I think.
