Never understood the ketchup and hot dog thing. Seems to fall into the no pineapple on pizza category but pineapple on pizza is damn tasty. Also, don't the Germans put some kind of ketchup on their sausages? Who is anyone to tell the Germans how to eat sausages?

Edit: I'm from California so that may explain my views ;-)

Hmm

I prefer chilled cheesecake.

Didn't know chili without beans was a thing.

Don't mind raisins with curry and don't even particularly like raisins.

It's more of a curry sauce than a ketchup.

What even is chilled mac and cheese? You make it then refrigerate it? That sounds like a terrible idea.

Just never saw the major sin of ketchup on a hot dog even after being warned by dirty Harry.
Where I live ketchup is a must have condiment for pizza (and KFC), now that is crossing the line for sure.

Ketchup on a hot dog is the #1 most standard condiment here in Straya.

Crispin a piece of it up on the griddle could save the day not that I'm defending the refrigeration technique.

Cheddar specifically is pretty rare with seafood, but Parmesan and cream cheese are pretty common.
Fair enough, my initial counter point was going to be shrimp alfredo then I started second guessing if that was actually a real dish or just something from red lobster.

Although for the shrimp and grits, I'm pretty sure there is some controversy on this and atleast in south a decent number of chefs don't use cheese.

we all agree that "food absolutes" are unequivocally wrong, correct?

@surf gouda grits are one of god's gifts to humanity, even with shrimp

I agree, Im pro-cheese (and bacon) when comes to shrimp and grits, just found it interesting that seems some chefs don't go for cheese for shrimp/grits.

5s: ketchup on pizza and KFC!? Where do you live?

Chris: I think he meant chilled to only apply to the cheesecake.

I'm in Thailand and is shocking to see. We actually have a lot of Italian expats that make legit Italian pizza and I think they die a little every time they see this happen to their creations.

BGP,
is this practice common in the Philippines or China?

As said by our previous president Obama to Bourdain, " it's not acceptable for anyone over 8 to put ketchup on a hot dog".

Is it not often standard to put a non-baked cheesecake in the freezer immediately to get it to cool quicker?

I can't remember seeing ketchup added to pizza, kfc I wouldn't know. In China it was fairly common to have pizza served with mayo on top though. Repulsive.

Wow, I didn't think it could get worse than ketchup. China taking it to another level.

How do you feel about the Belgian/Dutch thing of putting mayo on fries?

Nit: I love ketchup on hot dogs! I also like cheesecake out of the freezer with minimal defrosting.

DW: yeah was pretty obv what you meant. And I agree in general, but I will say you can def make some pretty elite stovetop Mac and cheese.

Not a popular opinion I'm sure, but I don't think mayo should he put on anything. I hate the stuff.

Here’s something I made the other night -

Pan seared mackerel with shichimi togarashi, arugula salad w/ manchego, crushed almonds, olive oil/lemon juice.

On top is an avocado blended with lime juice/zest, cilantro, and a little bit of sour cream
