Turned out pretty well, might go a little lower next time to see the difference.

Will post pictures tomorrow since I'm having trouble with phone.

Microwaves are secretly awesome when they're used appropriately. I do something similar with potatoes before slicing them thin and pan frying them.

Incidentally my fave asparagus method sounds gross but works great. Soy sauce, mayo, s+p, then blackened on a hot grill. Too bad they're 8 bucks a pound around here nowadays.

lol, wtf?

i agree plain chicken is pretty light in calories, but let's not pretend that 200g of meat is some enormous portion of food.

200g of chicken breast is also not 800 cals unless it's fried or something.

800 cals of grilled chicken is over 1 lb of chicken

So plenty of wiggle room for some ranch there.

For the second straight year, my fiancee and I decided to do a "Brunch-Off" for Valentine's Day - a fun way to do something different from the normal crowded restaurant. Thought I'd share our pics. Two dishes and a cocktail each - the first three were mine. I purposefully chose dishes that weren't overly time-sensitive (i.e. a runny egg or something), because she's really bad with time, and we invariably eat like a half hour after she tells me when to be ready. And we have a three-month-old, so that made the timing of everything even more unpredictable this year.

---

Deviled Eggs Two Ways - with Crispy Chorizo, Chorizo Oil, and Smoked Paprika; with Confit Tuna, Olives, Tomato, and Olive Oil

These deviled egg variations are two of nine listed on Kenji's site. I even splurged and spent $6 on a new plate (I think it's a sushi plate?) for the presentation!

Deconstructed BLT Soup - Chilled Lettuce Vichyssoise with Crispy Pork Belly, Roasted Cherry Tomatoes, and Homemade Crouton

I conceptualized this dish on my own, and was pretty proud of how it turned out!

Golden Sunset - Bloody Mary with Fresh-Squeezed Yellow Tomato Juice

Purple Potato Cakes with Warm Brussel Sprout Salad - Maple-Glazed Brussel Sprout Salad over Chorizo Potato Cake

Inside-Out Breakfast Sandwich - Bacon and Caramelized Onion Muffin with Fried Egg and Blueberry Jam

This was awesome. She made a dozen of the muffins. There's one left. :/

Apples & Honey - Honey-Infused Bourbon with Apple Cider Vinegar and Sicilian Lemon Soda

This was delicious too. The idea came from a (non-alcoholic) cocktail we had at Minibar about a year ago. The apple cider vinegar in this drink made all the difference - so crisp and refreshing.

Son of a bitch! I had the idea for this dish so long ago and I haven't made it yet. A deconstructed BLT soup. ****!

My idea was a savory tomato sorbet and a bacon jam spread for the bread to dip in it though. Guess I have to make it now.

my bad, I meant to say, eat enough lean protein that totals 200 grams of protein so at 4 grams of protein per ounce of lean chicken breast, you'd have to eat 3.125 lbs of chicken breast which is a helluva lot to eat and without sauces, frying, etc, it would stay close to 800 total calories

My point is you'll feel stuffed on only 800 calories and its not just chicken, any lean protein works (tastes like **** btw)

you have to run a deficit to lose weight, the high protein will fill you up making it easier to eat at a deficit plus it helps to reduce muscles loss in the process

Um,

Your stuff looks awesome, but I can't really see how inside-out breakfast sandwich doesn't take the grand prize there.

Was thinking the same. Seems like she won this one (but really this is a case where clearly you're both winners, everything looked great).

Thank you everyone - it was lots of fun.

ElD/BJJ, yeah that dish of hers was probably my favorite of the bunch. The bacon factor is tough to overcome.

txdome, a head of lettuce, a cucumber, a handful of spinach for color, a potato, an onion, vegetable stock, and butter/cream. It looked a lot like a broccoli-chesse soup I like to make (a Cooks Illustrated recipe), but it really did taste like lettuce. Roughly this: https://www.rivercottage.net/recipes...ce-vichyssoise
