I'm not telling you anything, but what I'm thinking is you're an idiot for not following the zipper merge. It's mind boggling to me that it isn't super standard.
I had the above happen to me several years ago on I-84 in Oregon about a mile after the "Merge in 5 miles" sign. Several truckers trying to be heroes. **** off, you idiot.
Oddly enough, there is one spot in Portland that isn't a true zipper merge situation (because one "lane" is actually a yield from another road), but EVERYONE follows it, slowing down to let one car in from the yield road.
