Houston most restaurants per blah blah blah or something

I personally prefer nola because that's the food I love, but Houston does have a ridiculous array of restaurants, vast diversity in cuisines, atmospheres, and prices, really good food, etc.

This shouldnt really even be close.

NY has anything you can ever imagine. So they win hands down.

Best ny food would have to be Italian food.

There are plenty of excellent fine dining choices in Atlanta. They're just way less well known compared to some of the other major cities, because Atlanta is rarely a "destination" city, unless you're attending a step show competition.

EDIT: not claiming Atlanta should win. I voted NYC.

I'm sure it does, but I feel like that's something you could say of basically any city with a population over like 500,000. Baltimore and DC aren't really known as "food cities" but there are plenty of amazing restaurants in all kinds of cuisines.

Where's the option for Gary, Indiana?

Seriously though, New York probably wins in a landslide, but Vegas and the Bay Area have some great restaurants.

Before Katrina New Orleans would win this hands down.

I love New Orleans for food. But this has to be NYC.

There is a huge marketplace, low barriers to entry*, and the clientele is simultaneously willing to experiment while familiar with good standards.

This ensures a large number of good restaurants that face tough competition and demanding clients all the time.

* By this I am specifically thinking location requirements versus Las Vegas or New Orleans, where tourists make up a lot of the market, and access to them is gained in specific locations

Can you find Chicago-style deep dish pizza in NYC?

If not, I'd have a really hard time picking it

The dining choices in Atlanta are kind of weak, although Atlanta is particularly strong in Korean and Vietnamese food.

NY and it's not even close.

If you made it best per $ then it could be a debate cuz NY is outrageous.

I actually think Toronto has better food than NY, but I've obviously eaten way more food in Toronto so I don't think I can compare without having lived in NY.

I don't think that "basically any city over 500,000" is going to offer restaurants like:
Nigerian,
Ethiopian,
Romanian,
Korean,
Texas BBQ (or equivalent extraordinary local specialty),
and staggering amounts of Chinese, Vietnamese, Thai, and Indian/Paki that are likely not found outside of NYC, LA, and/or San Fran.

That said, I don't put Houston in the top tier of food cities, as its fine dining options are more limited, but it is underappreciated. If this was a "best food for under $20" poll, not mentioning Houston would be a mistake.

I think it's still not-close on a price-basis comparison. There is a wider range of delicious dining options at all price levels in NYC than there are anywhere else I've been to.

yeah, I'm not a huge fan of much about NYC, but I've had some great meals there at very reasonable prices.
