What I really like about this story is that nobody in the family actually has the balls to call Big Daddy Cent like he asked a long long time ago. He must be that guy in the family everybody FEARS. They fear him so much they keep asking Amid to take care of the situation over and over and over again. Bunch of pussies, imo.

buy a cheap chess set for your dad, name it XXXXXX's chess set. sign contract for Fred, to get XXXXXX's chess set when your dad dies.

Do you have a brother or sister? I'd agree to the document but then have your dad leave it to one of your siblings and then "loan" it to you after your dad passes.

This is great. Betty now thinks she has leverage in the 'negotiations', when in reality she was close to committing a crime by withholding the three checks from the trust.

And all this after Richard has already stated that he wants to move on with his life and wants to forget about the whole chess set thing. Betty is mentally ill.

these threads are awesome, but if this goes to court the judge is going to have a LOLWTFBBQ moment after reading all of the correspondence.

I will be severely disappointed if Betty, Richard, or anyone on that side of the family ever lays eyes on the chess set again. Amid, you need to make sure it gets passed on to your children, your children's children, for generations to come. Your great great grandchildren will hear stories of legend about the mystical family chess set and the magical powers it holds.

My dearest and sweetest cousin Betty....

I cannot sign over the chess set now since it does not belong to me. If it ever is given to me, I’d be happy to discuss the situation at that time.

However, that does not change your responsibility as a Trustee nor change the fact that the checks are property of the Trust and need to be deposited in a timely manner. If, after you’ve deposited the checks, you still do not want to disburse any of the money, we can revisit why you are reluctant to give the money to the rightful beneficiaries.

You’ve said you want to be done with the Trust once and for all. The quickest way to do that is to deposit the checks now and split the rest of the money.

Eagerly awaiting next email. You may very well have to get Betty to commit a felony so that she goes to jail and then you truly can be done with this.

If you ever do seriously discuss signing your ownership of the chess set over to Richard, I do hope you discuss what you are getting in exchange. Perhaps the choice Betty made just before your Dad chose the chess set.

btw OP you need to take this on Antiques Roadshow. Hell, maybe you could even auction it here; the set is now part of 2p2 lore, like the Vegas bike.

My answer would have just been "im unwilling to discuss what i'll do when my dad dies".

Mostly cos i expect this ends up in court and so the reply of "go **** yourself" wouldnt look as good.

This much is very obvious. This is not just standard family feuding, she's clearly deranged.

If you deposit the three checks into the Trust, then once we pay the lawyer, we can write checks to our parents and close out the Trust once and for all.

Got this reply.

Would you like to legally sign the chess set over to Richard after your dad dies?

I'm thinking that if I say yes, she'll take a contract out on my dad. She'll probably even ask that the Trust pays for his hit.

Obv I'm not signing anything. I'm formulating my reply now, will post it later.
You should do this and have your dad give it to someone else

Then when your kids are fighting with any siblings kids you have in a trust, you can print out the original email from your dad 5 years later.

"Dear Betty,

How can I sign over something that isn't mine? My dad will do what he wants with the chess set when he dies, as spelled out in his trust documents.

I hope this won't interfere with your duties in properly executing the trust."

For hilarity's sake, your dad should name you and Betty as the executors of his trust.
