When you make grilled cheese, after you butter the bread, sprinkle it with that cheap canned parmesan and press the parm into the butter. The little parmesan packets that come with your pizza delivery work great too. Gives a nice crispy golden crust and will take your generic grilled cheese from an edible 5 to a solid 7.5

Ya maybe if you're not going far, but who cares about first class for a 2 hour flight? Asked about a first class ticket to Dubai, lol 35k.

speaking of canned parmesan cheese (if you're in to that sort of thing), the kroger brand is identical, if not better, than the kraft brand and at least a dollar less. pretty sure no sawdust, but not positive.

You lost all credibility. First class tickets are much cheaper if you have an idea what you are doing or fly Virgin.

Makes you wonder why such a person would take the time to open a thread titled "Cheap luxuries."

The checker at Wal-Mart once told me the Great Value ketchup is really made by Heinz. So the Kroger or WinCo grated cheese is just as likely made by Kraft.

That happens a lot with drugs. The same manufacturer makes the same drug, labels some of them as generic and charges x, labels some of them as brand name and charges 20x.

You usually buy two but when they're half of what you usually spend and you're flying across the country you only buy one?

Yeah you can even see it with 2 products (one name brand, one generic) when they have the same ingredients.

Are you really trying to spread cold butter on pliable white bread to make your sandwich? PChippa is rolling in his grave.

A cheap luxury you may want to invest in RDH would be a butter dish.

Now I'm honestly a bit curious: do you keep your butter at room temp? I still think it'd be a mess with white bread like Wonder or Bunny, but obviously better than fridge temp. Of course, if you just melt the butter in the pan there's no worries.

I've had butter on my counter for 10+ days since I was a child.

it's not as good as the real stuff, but land o lakes light butter is easily spreadable straight from the fridge.

Butter on the bench in old fashioned covered butter dish here 80% of time.
Do people really butter their grilled cheese? I just have straight cheese on bread.

Butter or mayo, directly applied to the bread, with a grilled cheese bread is a must.

Wtf? Why would you think I (or anyone) would try to spread cold butter on bread?
You've never made a grilled cheese?

Heres a another good cheap luxury for you:
Keep butter in a butter dish on the counter at room temp

There are a ton of restaurants, that you probably have eaten at, that use mayo instead of butter.
