We raised $0 in 2016 because I am lazy and didn't go to Vegas.
It's been a few years and we are overdue for rocking the charity rOOTlette again. If you have no clue what I'm talking about,
here is a link to the thread from last year. Here's
the year before that one. Take a look at those threads to get an idea of how this works if you have a question.
Rules:
1. We're going to nominate and select 37 lucky OOTers and a few alternates.
2. These 37 rOOTletters will get to choose a number from a roulette wheel to call their very own, as well as an IRS accredited 501(c)(3) charitable organization.
3. I'm going to go to the Bellagio and place an $X (currently $5) bet on every number on a single digit roulette wheel in the high limit room.
4. The winner gets their winnings donated to their chosen charity.
5. I will real-time post the results in this thread.
Nomination & selection process:
1. Only active OOTers who have a history of making good posts and who make OOT a better forum will be considered.
2. You can nominate up to 5 posters.
3. You cannot nominate yourself.
4. Nominate someone by posting their name in this thread in bold, along with your reasoning on why they deserve a slot. Feel free to second people if they have already been nominated.
5. Nominations of or by gimmicks/trolls/idiots will be ignored.
6. Nomination period will be 72 hours starting now.
7. After the nominating period ends, the best candidates will be chosen, along with some alternates. I'll announce them in the thread. If people are obvious locks I'll announce them as we go.
8. The selected posters will have 48 hours after selection to post their chosen # and charity in the thread. First come, first served. No duplicate numbers, no duplicate charities. If someone picked the number/charity you wanted, pick different ones. Alternates will be allowed to pick charities but will randomly be assigned leftover numbers, if any.
9. I make the rules, and I may change them at any time for any reason. No crying if I change something.
10. If you are too dumb to follow these rules, your post will be ignored.
11. I'm auto including myself because that's what you get to do when you're the king. I'm taking #2 and Friends Of Homeless Animals.
12. If we somehow don't get 37 people, I'll choose people myself.
Here is a sample nomination post:
El Diablo
This guy is the best poster on 2p2, that's why he has his own forum. He probably already knows which number is going to win, but what the hell.
de captain
He sailed around the world and put up with a bunch of idiot questions for years, answering them all and inspiring lots of people. Also helped run this before.
lapka
Consistently solid poster despite love of commas. Confirms butts.
gregorio
Top notch mod. We'll forgive him for being Canadian, he's already forgiven himself.
Yakmelk
Confirmed loleuro but we love him anyway. Wonderfully erratic posting quality, and owns it. Already won once, confirmed ringer.
If you are selected, here's a sample post of how to select your number and charity:
Name:
chopstick
Number: 2
Charity: Friends Of Homeless Animals
Q&A:
Q0. How much will this cost me?
A0. Nothing. I am putting up the cash.
Q1. What if it lands on 0?
A1. Whichever charity was selected for 0 will win.
Q2. Why the Bellagio?
A2. I know where it is, and I know the high limit room has a single 0 wheel. Also, that's where we did it the previous two years.
Q3. $5 is too low a bet for the Bellagio high limit room, isn't it?
A3. A bet of $185 on multiple "inside" bets is a single bet, it counts.
Q4. Seriously, how much is this going to cost?
A4. Nothing. If you want to contribute, that's fine, but you don't have to. I plan to place a bet of $5 for each number. If you want to add to the overall amount, or just put some cash on a specific number, charity, or person, that's fine.
Q5. I want to contribute/bet, how do I get you some $?
A5. Either show up or have someone show up at the Bellagio when I do this to hand me your bet. Make sure this happens no later than 6:30pm on the night of the spin - July 10. I have no interest in dealing with paypal, transfers, or anything like that. If a Vegas local wants to volunteer to handle that, I'll work with them.
Q6. Why lol$5? Make it something real at least.
A6. I look forward to you arriving in your private jet and increasing the amount to $100/number.
Q7. How do I know it got donated?
A7. I'll donate in person if the charity has a local Vegas branch, otherwise you're gonna have to settle for a screenshot of donating via the organization's website. Donated via website both prior years under the watchful eye of multiple 2p2ers with no issues.
Q8. How are you going to select from the nominees?
A8. I'm going to pick the best ones. How's that for arbitrary?
Q9. Why are you doing this?
A9. It's a way to thank and recognize good posters for their contributions to OOT while helping a charity at the same time.
Q10. Can I show up for this?
A10. Of course, the more the merrier. We have had people show up in person both prior years. See you at the Bellagio!
Q11. Are you just going to take off with the money?
A11. Not yet. After I've run this a few more years and everyone really trusts me seems like the most opportune time to abscond with my literally hundreds of dollars (/yeota) in riches.
Q12. How can I participate if I can't be there in person or ship monies to someone who is?
A12. Just make a pledge in the thread on the charity/number(s)/person you want to pledge, then donate on your own. You can post a screenshot later showing you made the donation if you wish. See the final page of the previous year's thread for what people did.
Q13. What are some suggestions on how I can participate?
A13. You can do whatever you want. Some people like to support everyone and pledge $37 (or a multiple of $37) to whatever the winning charity ends up being, which is essentially putting down $1 on each number. If you do that virtually, there's no casino vig. Some people like to pledge various amounts on specific charities they want to root for. Some people like to pledge for specific numbers that they like. Some people like to pledge for specific posters. You do you, it's all good.
Q14. This is a scam, isn't it?
A14. Absolutely.
