Thanks to Chop for running this and Gobo for helping out. Can't say I'm that surprised to win, though, because in Chadlean Numerology, 23 is called "the Royal Star of the Lion." It is a promise of success, help from superiors and protection from those in high places. In dealing with future events it is a most fortunate number and a promise of success of one's plan's.

I have lost three really good friends to BPD--they each started dating someone with BDP, and their girlfriends wouldn't let them see their friends any more.

When I worked at a youth drop-in center, I knew a girl with BPD who would get suicidal whenever she was alone. Almost every morning she'd wake up really early and call a suicide hotline. She mainly needed someone to chat with, so since she wasn't suicidal, they'd try to wrap up the call after an hour or so.

This would freak her out and she'd threaten to kill herself if they hung up. Sometimes they'd get so concerned, they'd tell her they were going to send the police to check up on her, to which she'd respond, if the police show up, I'm really going to kill myself.

The first time this happened, when they told her the police were on the way, she was waiting for them on her balcony, and when they got there, she jumped. Fortunately she lived on the second floor so she only ended up breaking a few bones.

This wasn't a sufficient deterrent to change her behaviour, however, and she would still call the hotlines every morning and fight with them and threaten suicide when the call was coming to an end, which led to the police being called to her place at least once a month, now without prior warning so she couldn't prepare for them.

Although there is effective treatment for BPD (dialectic behaviour therapy, or DBT), it is so in demand and difficult to deliver the full protocol (which includes weekly individual session, plus group skills training, plus therapists on call 24/7 to deal with crises) that most people with BPD don't have access. In Toronto, the DBT program at the psych hospital is so full that if you call, there is a voicemail that basically says, "Our wait list is full. Keep calling back. This message will be updated when the wait list becomes open again."
