Buying A Good Nut (Peanuts/Pistachios/Sunflower Seeds)! Buying A Good Nut (Peanuts/Pistachios/Sunflower Seeds)!

So I've liked nuts forever - from sunflower seeds on the baseball field as kid to loving pistachios as an adult I've loved them.

Problem is im a huge fish when it comes to buying them.

My current go-to is at the supermarket or walgreens buying them (Peanuts/Pistachios/Sunflower Seeds) and spending $10-$13 a pop on a bag of pistachios or $2 on a bag of sunflower seeds at the gas station (but can get the seeds for $1 at dollar general).

It occurred to me today i may be missing out not looking online, so that's the point of this thread - does anyone have a recommendation for their favorite site? Or any advice in general to stop paying Walgreens prices for pistachios/peanuts?

Probably your average massage parlor would be good for that.

For OP, Costco.

I like those Japanese style hot crunchy peanuts that you often find sold as Mexican snacks, cacahuates. HEB's house brand now sells a habanero version that's excellent and cheap too, 8 oz for $1.50.

Cashews are my favorite for sure, and yes they’re quite expensive. I would love a hookup on some quality cashews.

I bought cashews in India, right where they were grown, and they were still expensive.

Yes, the high price makes me choose to eschew cashews.

Eating sunflower seed shells = weirdo. I occasionally get the flavored stuff, but mainly just like them as a plain salt delivery vehicle.

corn nuts are similar to a nut's essence and cost less.

Love cashews but they're ridiculously expensive so generally just have them in stir fries and stuff when I want to be a little fancy.

Dont have nut buying advice but taking some sugar, add a few drops of water until it becomes like quicksand. Mix with nuts (I prefer pecans) and an optional dash of cayenne pepper. Microwave for a min, let cool for some nice candied pecans.

You can also bake it for a more roasty taste but its more tedious.

Large supermarket bulk nuts (Whole Foods, Safeway, etc.)- pick and choose the nuts you want, get the best quality, get exactly the quantity you want, and can also throw in some trail mix/candy/chocolate at the same time if you want.

unfortunately nearest one of these is 40 minutes away, so ideally i'd be looking at something online that can deliver closer

Pecans and pistachios are my favorites though there's a higher risk of getting a bad pistachio so I slightly give the nod to pecans. The only downside of pecans is that if I am shelling them by hand, the hard to remove membrane between the grooves of the flesh is really tannic.

I like macadamia and cashews but can't eat very many of them due to the oily nature.

thats fair but i learned that from my mom when i was little. probably go about half and half eat vs split.

mostly my gf eats the nuts (zing) and around here there are some amish stores where everything is super cheap. got some planters mixed nuts, i think it was a winter spice blend? but those were surprisingly good, and like $1-2 a can

If you're on the west coast, the bulk section at Winco is the hookup.
