man I thought this was gonna be something worth reading like he wants to rob a bank or practice sex on you or something.
This is a true story. A former coworker of mine met an asian gf on one of these kinds of retreats, fell in love, got married, she became a US Citizen, then she left him after wiping him out of all his cash. He begged me and others to borrow money. We used to kid around (not in front of him) that she's just using him to become a citizen (we were right).
Btw. Its kind of sad that in this day and age, a post about the Philippines quickly goes so casually racist AND transphobic...
Yes there are poor people here who are prostitutes or marry for money/citizenship. Some of them are transwomen. However, they are the exception rather than the rule.
guy I worked with went to Russia on one of those dating sites advertising 'brides'. When the girl saw him at the airport in Moscow she put her face in her hands and started crying.
Another guy actually married one. Svetlana. Brought her to the US, made her a citizen put her daughter through college then he died of colorectal cancer.
She made out like a fat rat with two homes, 401k and his pension. Smart guy too, can't believe he went that route.
I can't even begin to imagine how whitebread someone's life would have to be to think that this qualifies as 'crazy'.
I mean better stop him before he goes right off the rails, next thing you know he might start showing up 5 minutes late to church and using his conditioner before his shampoo!
Marrying a prostitute isn't crazy in your world? This isn't Pretty Woman. This is a dude trying to turn a literal whore into a housewife.

You've put a weirdly cynical spin on this story, unless you somehow believe she gave him cancer.

I mean it's not standard, but if a guy is like 40 something and still struggling with women it's not that outside the norm.
My expectations for use of the word 'crazy' are much higher.
This is like a 5/100 on the crazy scale.

Agree with this post. I don't even think it's offensive or sad though, it's just cringeworthy
I would say that the bottom line is that if you struggle in your home country with other half of humanity you won't get a perfect wife, looking 10/10, who is madly in love with you somewhere else.
I can talk only about Russia. Women and most of all general model of relationship between man and woman are slightly different there than in a west. But that is gonna be rather a disadvantage for you, since you will have no clue what does a woman expect. There are some who definitely have this weird picture of the USA#1, that it is a country, where everyone is rich, men adore women in general and russian women especially, there are no problems at all and everything is done for the people. Others see the situation more realistically. They understand that this guy, who came from many 1000 miles afar to see them, has himself a lot of problems, probably more than average guy in USA, they know that there is no place on this earth with zero struggle, and actually have pretty decent picture of a marriage as a union where both have to pull the cart.

Id like to point out that I did pull him up for the "ting tong" thing as part of my ongoing attempts to drag sexagenarian working class Mancunians into the 21st century though I genuinely don't think the idea that anyone might find it offensive ever crossed his mind. On a positive note I'm fairly confident he would have told the story in pretty much the same way had he thought that she had a penis.
My friend had a pretty sad roommate, he would Skype his “gf” from the Philippines for like 2 years. He eventually saved enough to bring her to the states and after the first night here he had blisters all over his face. She left him shortly after and my friend got to keep his tv since he owed him rent.
Cliffs, your bro is going to get the herp and lose his tv

I wasnt particularly aiming at you. Although i did wonder at why some racial slurs are semi okay to repeat and others arent. Oh well.

Has anybody suggested this is the expectation?
For a lot of guys getting a 7/10, who at least likes you, is better than going to bed alone.
watched love me just cause of this thread comments, its so cringeworthy throughout.
The police showing up to the ladies house saying you need to pay $4,000 or shes getting arrested, and the dude hands over all the cash he had. just lol.
yeah this sounds pretty dumb. i saw a documentary on netflix about one of these to eastern europe and it was all-around super sad. there was one normal guy and he realized it was bull****
like, imagine you have a tough time getting along with the opposite sex: the solution isn't to pick a partner who it's way harder to communicate with. or is it a conscious decision to try to limit communication overall? which is also sad.
+1, communication is important - you can't do much through a translator. A few years ago I saw one documentary set in Odessa where 6 months after filming the only people who ended up living together in the US were one of the guys and the translator who wasn't meant to be one of the girls. I assume it's not "Love Me" as that is a newer documentary.
Of course the pro move is to relocate to Eastern Europe and learn the local language like I did.
Some good vids I found while trying to track down the thing I saw earlier:
7 minute ABC news report
Longer documentary with more stuff from the girls' point of view.
The issue with this approach is that it doesn't address the root cause of the problem. If someone isn't successful with relationships, they should identify and work on the reasons for their lack of success. Casting a wider net or targeting fringe opportunity is usually just ignoring the actual problem and delaying the inevitable.

So you're saying that these desperate men should pull themselves up by their own jock straps?
Watching Love Me now... this is pretty awesome lol
Edit: Wait I don't get it though, these women don't speak any English at all? What's the point? I figured it would be women with at least a good level of English, but not fluent
