On the other hand, I guess your total inability to problem solve or think creatively outside of the box you were presented by an external source does line up well with various stereotypes of mechanical engineers, so there's that.
Like here's my allegory for much of this thread:
I hand you a hammer, and point at a nail, you happily hammer the nail. I point you at a screw, you nonchalantly show me how well a hammer can drive in a screw. I show you a clogged toilet, you immediately start smashing it to bits. I ask you why you did that, you say "well you gave me a hammer, that's the only way I could think of to unclog it with a hammer." I ask you why you didn't leave the room and get a plunger, you yell that I must be picking on you because you're a woman.
I'm sure if you sit down for an hour or two you'll be able to figure out why it's not likely that your earlier statements about the degree statuses of other applicants are actually true, and other things that might cause there to be hidden information trapped in the "Not Applicable" group.
