Your mindset is just in the wrong place, it's not doing you any favors. Despite your beliefs there is no grand conspiracy to exclude women in your industry. The reason it's male dominated is because more males pursue engineering as a career. If anything it's probably a plus that you're a woman as working in a sausage fest environment can get boring.

As a previous IT hiring manager I can say your perception is completely false. We would receive so few female resumes that you are more likely to get an interview.

I'd be curious to know what service this was.

Same. If you can post it here and wouldn't mind ballparking the cost it would be greatly appreciated.

Then how can it be that I got so few?

As a woman engineer I have not had any special treatment.

My 1st job I was pregnant and still expected to perform all of my field work up until my due date. I was climbing on huge natural gas compressors and other equipment hooking up test equipment. I was breastfeeding after I had my baby and did it in a private room at my office and the manager told me, " you need to do that in your truck, you're making the guys uncomfortable"

My second job I was an absolute badass and all my male coworkers got larger bonuses and raises than me, and my manager treated them like a bunch of babies while piling the pressure on me.

And, this latest job they told me my shirts were too tight and offensive.

Yeah, I would love some more special woman treatment.

It probably has to do with being insufferable

You're too big to serve? You'd prbly beat minimum wage by a lot and can still work other jobs around that since it's usually 4-6 hour shifts. Plus you could potentially just work at night and have time to focus on job hunting or whatever during normal daylight business hours.

LOL do you really not understand that a only a tiny fraction of people submitting resumes for engineering positions are women?
I imagine most companies hiring engineers are ecstatic when they are able to bring in a woman, just to be able to buck that very perception.

If you werent getting any interviews, then its pretty obvious that there was something wrong with your resume. And as far as your treatment at your last few jobs goes, Im willing to bet that your personality had a lot more to do with how people chose to interact with you, than the fact that you are a woman.

Let me remind you of who I was working for:

My clients loved me and sent several emails requesting me on their jobs. One guy got mad when I wasn't assigned to his job, and wrote an email saying what a great job I had done on his reports, and this idiot still assigned it to someone else so that he could give me a job that had no money left on it. I was even able to make a client happy that had been completely billed and all of their testing had previously been done wrong.
I'm a likable person and I do great work.
I just find it difficult when idiots are telling me what to do.

Man, I don't think I'm a strong enough person to apply for hundreds of jobs and get rejected hundreds of times. If you actually applied for hundreds of jobs and got none of them, I'd strongly suspect that you aren't applying for jobs that are a good match for your skills and experience. That seems more likely than some grand conspiracy across hundreds of employers to keep women out of the workforce.

And my first job, my team loved me. I was only in the office in east Texas twice a month for meetings and to do expense reporting, so the men there didn't really know me at all. I had to pump there because if you don't the milk just comes out everywhere. They are just so backwoods and get offended by everything, and apparently were offended a woman had her boobs out to punt milk in a private room.
I got to go to Solar Turbines manufacturing facility, and they had a breast pumping room set up for the nursing mothers with comfy chairs-it was awesome.

My location means I have to work with closed minded, conservative idiots. So, yeah I think it is more I am a woman than my personality.

Most of my clients from my last job are in California; I'm guessing they don't hate women as much there based on how great theses guys were to work with.
