My bf Code3 just got a job; we are looking for apts to move in this weekend, so it's a lil more complicated. If I don't find a job in my area in the next few months, I'll be open to moving.

Let me recap this thread for you OP.

Your chip leader in life (scoring a 6 figures job not too long after being done with university I'm guessing) that means your top 1.82% of the population right off the bat.

Keep in mind the median household income from 2009-2013 was 53,046$ (and that's the whole house combined)

Then you walk into your ex boss office screaming "Riverside beep, beep and I ain't talking this ish" over people probably making half of your salary getting bonuses.

This leads you to quit your job when you should've tried to get your old boss fired in the first place which was obviously the optimal play when you said that you loved everything there but him.

What are we learning here?

Next time go optimal.

And keep looking OP I'm sure you'll find something, I was in the same boat 7 years ago, it felt like I sent 700 resumes before getting some work so I know what it feels like.

I'm sorry you had to learn from your mistakes (sadly that's life in general for everybody unfortunately, at least were all in the same boat there)

Best of luck.

Chop, zomg, etc:

I don't think it was like that or unappreciative or anything, just that she wants to give things a few more months before considering a change like that. Seems reasonable to me.

For what it's worth, the Fed is describing the US economy right now as "near full employment," which means around 5% unemployment. I know, lots of nuance to the numbers and the statement, but generally, right now, it should be fairly easy to get a job, per the Fed. They may very well be raising rates next month as a result.

This should be good news to MLY.

I checked out of my hotel room this morning to check back in to another comped room for 2 days; the room wasn't ready, so they gave me $45 for the casinos "fancy" restaurant. I had Quail legs and Roasted Lamb.(Homeless Brag)

ED - assuming he got her the job, what % chance would you assign to it coming back on him? Do a quick scan of the full thread first before answering.

I completely agree with zomg and MrWookie, btw.

ElD,

I'm not sure how you get that it wasn't unappreciative her two responses were:

Could you send me the details?
I might be interested in that in a few months.

If I was in this situation i would have at least thrown a "that's really kind of you" although unless I was desperate (sounds like she is getting there) I also probably would have declined as who knows what could happen and I wouldn't want it to coming back to bite jt.

OPs attitude is out of whack this whole thread, nevertheless I have been following since the beginning and enjoying the updates and hope it works out for her.

Have you mentioned why you can't live with Code, since being near him is such a big factor in not looking in Houston?

I am incredibly thankful to jt. And, there would be a 0% chance it would come back on him. I take commitment very seriously, and would be 100% committed if I chose to move. I would never let someone's reputation be tarnished by my actions.

This is awesome. Plenty of funny ways to probe here, but I'll take the straight-man approach.

What is this job where she would do nothing and get $80K+ per year?

She wouldn't get respect because others would know she was handed the job?

"Hacking it" means dealing with the jealousy/resentment of others working for her?

This is fascinating! I already know I have follow-up questions to your answers to these preliminary ones.

Work in construction/maintenance in the refining industry, which seems to be doing pretty well. Know a handful of companies that are really just looking for bodies, so they'll take nearly anyone with a recommendation. No respect because she'll be a young degree holder in an industry full of old non-degree holders. Hacking it mostly means getting along with others while appearing to be productive.

I stick by my post two months ago. I think there is probably something odd about OP. Someone should do a skype interview and confirm that she is a bit off.

So you don't actually have a job at an oil/gas company? Are you a recruiter?

Really? Doesn't quite seem legit. Can you give any specifics about what companies are just looking for bodies? That would supervise others? I do engineering consulting for oil/gas companies and I know of none with this attitude, particularly right now when oil/gas is on the downturn. Just seems a bit of an odd claim.

Today I just walked into two engineering companies and ask to speak with an Engineer. Turned out to be the best idea I've had; got several contacts from both places. The last guy I spoke with is even going to recommend me to one of their clients.

Starting Monday I am going to make a list of companies that I have applied to, and I am just going to show up and ask to speak with the hiring manager.

Update: I've just had a second interview with one of the companies I went to. They were impressed that I just walked in and asked for a job.
I'll find out today if I got the job, but I am a little apprehensive. The company is very large (40,000 employees), but all of the online reviews are terrible. The overall gist of the reviews were that the company expects it's engineers to work 60hrs/wk, high stress, low pay, lazy/hostile management. The company is rated one star on every website I checked. I brought this up during the interview, and their response was that some engineers just don't want to work and can't handle the pressure. I'm okay with working a lot, and I get excited to think I would be handling several projects--I really prefer this; I can't stand to be bored at work. It's just that I expected a different response from the interviewers.
I also have another interview today, and one in a couple of weeks for what I would consider my dream job.

OP that sounds like the worst job imaginable. You have an engineering degree and some experience. Why would you settle for something that ****ty?

Because I've been looking for almost a year, and I've depleted all my savings. I didn't hear from them today, so I'll prolly get rejected anyway.

The interview I had today was a complete waste of time. This guy, VP of a company where I used to live, called me to come in and speak with him. I did not apply to the company, so I was thinking "yes, they must be really interested". After I drove 3 hrs to interview, he told me that they were looking for someone with HVAC experience which I don't have. WTF??

I have another interview scheduled for Monday. Entry level position for HVAC design. :/

Feels like I'm trekking through the slums of engineering.

Yeah but when you're verging on long term unemployed, a **** job is way better than no job. If you go 6-12 months or more without employment, employers will start to treat you like you have cancer. Not fair, but how it often works.

In that case you take the **** job, you work for 1 year, and you start passing out resumes again.
