Failure to yield right of way and threw his bike at the unmarked police car.

Sounds fine to me.

Only problem is that was a bogus fine as the cop was the one who failed to yield the right of way.

Do you read before you comment?

The cop was rounding a corner. It has been documented that the cop drives while on the phone frequently. I am inclined to believe the Bike Messenger.

It's been my experience that bicyclists follow the rules of the road less than 10% of the time. When it's a bike messenger/delivery guy that goes down to less than 0.1%.

According to the article you posted, the only other documentation is from this dude while being arrested and asked why he impersonated a police officer in an attempt to pull over a female driver.

Officer should have shot the messenger when threatened with a bike.

Sounds like a credible source and a fine upstanding individual.

Seriously. It seems to be getting worse, too. They act like they can do anything they want. Even in situations where they may have the right of way, they should keep in mind that having the right of way does not make one invincible.

lol hipsters on fixies. This douche was riding his bike like an idiot, the inevitable happened, then he assaulted someone in a car, and he shouldn't be arrested? wtf

There's a Jimmy Johns a few blocks from my house and the hipster bike delivery dudes have nearly crashed into me several times while I was just walking on the sidewalk.

In general, about 5% of dudes on bikes pay any attention whatsoever to traffic signals, and think they have the right of way (over both cars and pedestrians) at all times. It's amazing that more bike hipsters don't die every day.

Anti-bike people are pretty hilarious. "Yeah the cop might have been the one breaking the rules of the road, but herp derp I see bikes breaking the rules sometimes so I'm fine with every innocent bike rider being arrested!!!"

How many gears are on your bike, 1 or 2?

I do not know if this particular bike rider is "innocent". Maybe he's one of the 0.1%. It's not impossible. Just a couple of weeks ago I saw a few cyclists that were even using the correct hand signals for "slow down" and "right turn". I just find it doubtful that this fine upstanding young gentleman does the same.

well the story is presented as biased as it could be and still doesn't even say for a fact who was breaking the rules so given none of us were there people will a) draw on their past experiences and b) blame the guy who threw his bike at a car

Signals for turning, ok, but what are you talking about here?

Arm signals: You must give a hand signal for all turns. (In America, one signals a right turn by bending the left arm at the elbow and raising the forearm as if to point over your head. That does not work in Germany.) Europeans point left with their left arm and point right with their right arm. The signal for stopping is one arm extended and the forearm pointing down - at least this is just like American traditions. For the stop signal, it is best to use the arm most likely to be seen by the traffic you want to know that you intend to stop. And be careful when you choose to use the arm on the side that controls the rear wheel brake. Source

Maybe I am misunderstanding or something: are you seriously implying people on bikes should "signal" (lol at the suggested sign for that btw) each time they are "slowing down"?? Only people that never use a bike would think this is an even remotely rational idea.
