Sandwich lovers,

ALSO SEE SWEET SIXTEEN SECOND HALF POLL: https://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/3...-half-1706820/

Very simple. There are four pairs of sandwiches battling to advance. Vote for one in each pair. The four winners advance. Heavy gimmick account or heavy random participation may result in a sandwich being DQ'd. So just vote for what you want and no shenanigans.

Here's the criteria for selecting the "best" sandwiches. Select it based on the best reasonably available version of that sandwich to you. Not the average or the best ever version, but the one that you'd go get if you wanted to have one of these for lunch tomorrow.

So if the sandwich at the good deli you like is a 7/10, that's the one to consider. Not the 9/10 you had someplace on vacation or the 9/10 that is available for $50 at the bar of some super-luxury hotel or fine dining restaurant - unless that's where you eat most of your sandwiches!

Sandwich fans,

Lobster roll vs pastrami and Italian vs cheesesteak both very hard choices for me here.

Chicken parm is uninspired comfort food that pretty much never rises above mediocrity. I mean, it's hard to find one that's bad and I've happily eaten hundreds, but it's near impossible to find one that's great.

In B4 people argue for some local version they love because they can't admit it's just mediocre comfort food.

27,

That's what I thought too, but not to the masses it appears!

Banh mi vs chicken parm and po-boy vs breakfast sandwich shaping up to be the real battles here.

While banh mi is perhaps my favorite sandwich, I can see some people voting for a hearty and delicious chicken parm over it, especially if they haven't had a good banh mi. But breakfast sandwich (and I love a good sausage, egg, and cheese!) over fried shrimp po-boy? That seems crazy, unless a lot of people just don't like shrimp.

Not sure I've ever seen a shrimp po-boy on a menu except in New Orleans. I'm going to guess they're popular in other gulf states/the south, but anywhere else in the country?

J,

It's a southern, specifically Louisiana, thing. I see it all over the country, but only at southern/soul food/Cajun places.

SF: http://www.queenslapoboys.com/images/regular-menu.pdf
NYC: http://www.thegumbobros.com/menu/

I think if a place serves po-boys, it's very likely to serve fried shrimp po-boys.

Never even seen a po-boy of any kind. Had to go for breakfast sandwich even though I'm sure the po-boy is probably better.

I think this is shrimp po boy's downfall. I assume a significant percentage wouldn't really have the place off the top of their head that they would go for a shrimp po boy. So breakfast sandwich wins by default.

My apologies, I think my vote for the breakfast sandwich was a knee jerk reaction to oyster poboys not being in the running. I don't usually eat battered shrimp, but I love them every other way.

Oh god this is gonna be really hard.

How can you compare a shrimp po boy to a breakfast sandwich? They're both so good... Goddamnit.

Breakfast sandwiches are important, man.

In your favor I'm hooked on bahn mi and I'm going to go buy one of each tomorrow for a personal judging, lol. Sandwiches at a Viet restaurant, who knew?

Aren't Vietnamese bakeries/sandwich places a thing in the US? They're everywhere here and one of the main places I'd buy a sandwich/roll.

This is exactly how I feel about bahn mi.
I've had lots and lots of passable, average, and good ones but I can't say I've ever had a truly great one. The ratio of meat to produce is almost always off (and when it is, it is ALWAYS skewed in favor of too little meat), and at most places Ive tried the quality of meat is average at best.

Kinda seems like the best thing going for bahn mi is that they are dirt cheap pretty much everywhere they are offered.

Went po-boy, pastrami, and cheesesteak. Never had Banh-mi and rarely have chicken parm so I'll abstain. While good breakfast sandwiches are everywhere nothing beats a good shrimp po boy, even if they are harder to find

They're a thing in major cities, especially on the west coast. Elsewhere, not so much.

How is breakfast sandwich winning? I can make the pinnacle of those at 2 am in my pajamas. I can't make a delicious po boy with terrific flaky bread and succulent deep fried shrimp. The cold veggies give it a contrast that delights the senses and begs for a beer to wash it down. egg mcmuffins my ass.
