Home stretch here, we've got four heavyweights of the sandwich world left standing!
The Final Four Sandwiches Battle
All-American classics: Cheesesteak v Breakfast
Jewish deli classics: Reuben v Pastrami
Very simple. There are two pairs of sandwiches battling to advance. Vote for one in each pair. The two winners advance. Heavy gimmick account or heavy random participation may result in a sandwich being DQ'd. So just vote for what you want and no shenanigans.
Voting Criteria
Here's the criteria for selecting the "best" sandwiches. Select it based on the best reasonably available version of that sandwich to you. Not the average or the best ever version, but the one that you'd go get if you thought to yourself “man, I’m really in the mood for an xyz sandwich today!”
Even if your standard/average sandwich is subway, don't vote based on subway (unless you really love it!). And don't vote based on the cheesesteak you had when visiting Philly or the pastrami sandwich at Katz’s when vacationing in NYC. Vote based on the good sandwich you'd go get when you want a good sandwich.
The difference between a good pastrami sandwich and a bad one is so incredibly vast that I'm surprised it made it this far. There just aren't that many places to get a good one.
Reuben, you’re cool. Not banh mi or Cubano cool, but you’re alright.
Pastrami is in the same boat as pulled pork and bbq brisket- it lacks the full complement of flavors and textures that make a sandwich elite. And what LFS said- the meat is basically the whole sandwich, and there aren’t many places that make good pastrami.
Nothing wrong with cheesesteak, but again it’s not a well-rounded sandwich. Like many American foods it uses cheese as a crutch to cover up the fact it just ain’t that good.
Yeah if it's plain pastrami sandwich at the best deli in the average city (which is apparently how this is set up), pastrami shouldn't have made it out of the play-in game.
If it's a #19 at Langer's, however, whole different ballgame.

I don't understand the point you're trying to make. Is that supposed to be a photo of a pastrami sandwich or a Reuben?
I'm abstaining from breakfast v cheesesteak because both are too good to choose between them. It should be an easy victory for whichever comes out of there versus the lower half of the bracket.
LFS, that langers sandwich looks amazing, but is it a reuben or pastrami? It's probably closer to reuben with all those fixins.
Steak, egg, cheese is a damn good breakfast sandwich. Cheesesteak is just another sammy. And where is the parity? A cheesesteak is one ingredient away from being a breakfast sandwich and pastrami is two from being a reuben. More redundancy than an aws data center up in here.

Yeah, it sounds like he basically saying a pastrami sandwich sucks unless it's a Reuben*. And while that's probably a little harsh w.r.t. the pastrami sandwich, the fundamental idea correct.
*Yeah, I know it's not a classic Reuben, but Reuben-like sandwiches were already ruled to be in the Reuben category for this contest.

That is a pastrami sandwich from Langer's in Los Angeles. Specifically, a #19: pastrami, cole slaw, swiss, and russian dressing on fresh-baked rye. So yeah I guess close to a reuben in some ways, but still imo a pastrami sandwich.
But again I understand the pastrami sandwich in this competition is not supposed to be the world's best pastrami sandwich, so it doesn't really matter!
Now, no matter where you live, you too can enjoy a delicious Langer's Original #19. And if you're not in the mood for a Reuben, you can try their Classic Pastrami instead.
