Even in sf, the home of mediocre overpriced $10 sandwiches, you can get a great banh mi for under $5.

Edit: of course we do also have plenty of hipster banh mi places with $10 sandwiches...

I am surprised there hasn't been more of an anti-cilantro outcry re: banh mi.

Nuggetz, your pics look incredibly delicious! Even though half of your breakfast sandwich pics are ineligible, I don't even mind since they look so good!

I had been wanting to get a bahn mi after seeing them on TV but always end up getting somehing else when going to a vietnamese restaurant. I got one today at a place that has pretty good pho but it was underwhelming even though I really want to love it. The ratio of meat to the veggies seemed off.

It was better when I put a bunch of sriracha on it. I even tried dipping it in the pho.

I've seen an awful lot of crazy conspiracy theories on this site, but this one may top them all!

Depending on the place and their particular meat ratio, sometimes I ask for extra meat on my banh mi order. They're so cheap that it's not much more, and it can make the resulting sandwich even better!

Pho is often meatballs and tendons with a metric ton of veggies and noodle. It goes best with Vietnamese iced coffee because I don't like sleeping.

I propose a new title for this thread "Elite 7 and McGriddle," although I dispute the thought that syrup-infused bread is actually bread under the current definitions.

Still looking for nyc banh mi recs as I think they are slightly overrated in this competition.

Num pang + some deli's are what Ive had. Want to set the bar a little higher and maybe see things your guys way.

Anything with 2 slices of grain that has been baked with stuff in between is basically a sandwich. At the same time I think it makes sense in these polls except you'd have to subtract the breakfast sandwich from the polls imo. A breakfast sandwich is nothing on normal bread next to it being on a muffin, biscuit or croissant. I'm thinking that breakfast sandwich should be taken out if we don't include the croissant, biscuit and muffin. If not then a breakfast sandwich just can't compete to be honest.

After looking at that I have a feeling I've never actually had a really good pulled pork sandwich. Any I've bought were not even on the level of the ones that I've made and I don't know how to make a good pulled pork sandwich specifically, I just know how to make good sandwiches. In that vein I've never had a good pulled pork sandwich cuz an expert would show me up easily after looking at those pics.

Cheese steak is awesome and more mainstream then most in the poll and it's hard to make a bad one. I'd still take an Italian sub over it tho. Unless you get it from a place that makes it like wawa. # lamesauce

I love cheesesteak, but that may have been the worst sandwich I ever ate.

There are a lot of ****ty cheesesteaks. The one at Subway might be the worst (I guess it's called Steak and Cheese). But the really good ones are great. They aren't that hard to make but you can end up with **** ones--dry, not enough meat, etc. The bar is pretty high for cheesesteaks here in Philly and I've yet to have a bad one here.
