Btc,

El D didn't say what you said he did, and it's not what someone thinks of, it's what they'd actually get. You and Rapini are colored by your own experiences and what you'd get, and I've already said that it's a valid vote for you in that case. (And Rapini didn't even vote for breakfast sandwich.) I am also colored by my own experiences, but also my estimation of the OOT demographic.

OOT has both high end foodies and fast food gluttons, as evidenced across several threads. For some portion of people, breakfast sandwich is a legit great vote, but I don't believe that is true of all of the breakfast sandwich voters.

And before parsing my post that kicked this off too much, I will readily admit that I used some amount of hyperbole in parts. This is a bracket competition, like Ms. OOT, and my posting reflets that, vs more serious posting in some other threads. That's different from parsing the rules in the OP's, since that's relevant for voting. I also admit that my interpretation of the words in the OP's may not match El D's intention precisely, but I'm also definitely not the one comparing the most ghetto versions either.

patron,

Do you really think people are confused about what they're choosing in any way when they pick between a breakfast sandwich and a fried shrimp sandwich?

El D,

Of course NYC delis are valid for NYC voters, and ones they make themselves are fine if they in fact would do that tomorrow. I never said otherwise, and expressly said that's fine for those people. What I disagreed with was using that to defend all the voters as a category, when it's highly unlikely that those things apply to all of the voters or even most of them.

Also, re: people knowing what they're voting for, I agree, for most sandwiches. Not for all, and not for breakfast sandwiches. I think they're voting for the great one they're thinking of, and not the one they'd realistically get tomorrow. It's also provable that some people don't really know what they're voting for, in certain sandwich matchups, but vote anyway. Some amount of that may apply in this matchup as well.

El D,

Yes, some people probably are. What I just said above, and plus, some have probably never even had a fried shrimp po boy.

People who would seen out a McDonald's when they were in the mood for a breakfast sandwich (rather than just happening to order a breakfast sandwich when they were at McD's anyway) are probably also people who don't want a regional specialty seafood sandwich from a sketchy bodega. So their vote is just as valid as the folks who would look for good versions of both.

fried shrimp parm > shrimp poboy

shrimp scampi on garlic bread > shrimp poboy

shrimp eggroll > shrimp po boy, but that's a different thread entirely

shrimp poboy > shrimp salad

Seat fillers gonna fill seats and in the end shrimp on a roll is not making past this round...

Personally I don't eat breakfast during the week except for maybe a granola bar or piece of fruit, so I would only get a breakfast sandwich on weekends.

Off the top of my head I can think of about 10 local places I would go that are all a shorter walk than the nearest Mcd's. Most common is the little Mexican restaurant two doors down. Chorizo, egg (2), and cheese for $5.50. She cooks it right in front of you and you're out the door less than 10 min after ordering.

"what you would get" sausage egg mcmuffin hits the spot and 2 for $4.

I'll defend that.

Eh breakfast food is generally cheap. I eat a decent amount of FF, but breakfast I usually get something good or cook it myself. FF breakfast is generally trash compared to real breakfast food. Imagine how much better that McMuffin would be if the egg was over easy instead of over hard.

I do have a soft spot for TB sausage crunchwrap though.

If you don't live near a decent local breakfast shop, well that sucks for you. For the record I believe I voted po boy, but it was a tough decision.

patron and I would like to figure out whether more of the OOTocracy believes that the average breakfast sandwich--as described by El Diablo in the voting criteria for the sandwich brackets threads--is closer to a McGriddle or a deli breakfast sandwich.

For more background info, see posts #508-#529 of this thread: https://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/3...ssion-1706310/

Please vote only once for a single option. Other votes will be canceled. And out of respect for El Dialblo's previous ruling, MLYLT is not allowed to participate. All points of related discussion are appreciated in-thread.
The three options of course would be McGriddle, deli breakfast sandwich, and bastard.

When I visites Spain, I had some of the best breakfast sandwiches I've ever had. Iberico ham & Swiss on a croissant was a staple everywhere for 1-2 euro depending on if you wanted a runny fried egg on it. Something about a runny egg hitting every crevice and settling inside of a sliced croissant is just amazing.

Breakfast food is so cheap that I can't bring myself to pay hipster prices for a breakfast sandwich. Like $13 for a B/E/C at Eggslut for example. If you take that markup to a burger or similar sandwich, they would be in the $30 range at that scale.

Rapini,

That does not address my statements or capture the spirit of what I was discussing. Even if I changed the wording to reflect that, there would be numerous problems with using an open poll to resolve the issue. There's a reason that I wrote "If such a thing were provable." You should be able to realize what some of those problems would be, if you think about it. For these reasons, I do not wish to enter into a bet with you on this.

I would not trust an over easy egg prepared by anyone but myself and I don't want yolk running out of my sandwich.

If you mean out of your breakfast sandwich you’re eating on the go, fine.

If you mean in general, that’s sad. Runny yolk in a breakfast sandwich (or burger or whatever other food you put an egg on) is amazing.

Anything over a plate is fair game. But if I'm seated in that kind of environment, I'm probably not going for a breakfast sandwich.

Yeah, I thought you might say something like that. I could just say "reading comprehension" again, but I'll point it out:

"You should be able to realize what some of those problems would be, if you think about it."

Can you do that? There are several very identifiable problems that I can immediately list that would invalidate such a poll. This is not me running away from a silly wager, this is me having an understanding of the situation and you not appearing to.

ETA: I doubt it needs to be said, but if it does - this is all extremely light-hearted, occasionally hyperbolic, and meant in good fun obv.

I'm guessing there are more McDonald's in any given area than a high-end breakfast joints. Plus the rule is that you are going for average. While I'm sure 2+2 above average, few here are going to get their breakfast sandwich at Wolfgang Puck's.

Now that it was brought up, not having PB&J elected is kind of sad.

No. It's what you'd get if you were really in the mood to have that sandwich today.

For those not in the know, the Pittsburgh panini was a bit of an oversight. Considering the po' boy is getting it's butt kicked, I'm guessing this regional sandwich wouldn't make many waves.
