Best place to buy a watch? Best place to buy a watch?

I am looking to buy a watch for ~1k USD and I am not sure if it's best to buy online or find a local retailer of a certain company. Specifically I'm looking at the Movado Faceto series, Tag Heuer's Carerra series, and some good watches in the ~1k range.

Movado is NOT a good watch... just a name brand that charges a lot of money.

You may want to consider an older, or vintage watch. You can get a far nicer time piece for even around $1k then you can often find brand new.

movado isn't a good watch brand

this depends on what you are looking for in a watch, do you want aviation style, watch, or a diving style watch, or a dress watch? do you prefer quartz or automatic movements? are you intending to wear this watch every day? do you want complications like a chronograph, date, day? do you prefer a leather strap or stainless bracelet etc.

and generally you can find watches at a better price online, you just need to find a good retailer

there's a sea of nice timepieces in the 1k range you just need to narrow it down. you say a movado which is dress and then you say a carrera which is more sporty, what do you really want

Watches seem like something where its either go hard or go home. I can see spending 50-250 on a decent everyday watch (Seiko Kinetic or something) and I can also see spending 5K plus on a nice Rolex. But 1k? Seems kind of half hearted. Maybe thats just my lack of Watch knowledge.

Hamilton watch company has some great watches in the ~1k range.

I like these two and they run from 1k-1.5k depending on where you buy them.

If you buy online you don't get warranty. You get it cheaper though.

If you buy from authorized dealer you'll pay full price. You may as well buy from a jewelers. There are sites that will sell you watches at discount but the warranty is void. You got to be careful about sites that claim they are authorized dealers too. If the watches are half the price of a jeweler then it's not probably not an authorized dealer you are buying from.

Spend a little money and get a book on the history of watches or design.
