Man there are so many good jerky brands out there. I use a subscription service to get jerky sent to me. It's called Sumo Jerky. They send me different brands each month. Worth checking out if you love jerky.

Having opened that one for the games today, I am sad to report that you were correct...it is very bland. Quite the disappointment compared to other teriyaki jerky I have had before. Hopefully the sriracha lives up to expectation...

Michelle,

That’s exactly what I’m hoping about the bbq and mango jalapeño I have on deck!

Random bump, got the limited time ghost pepper jerky from Big John's and it's going to take months to finish. Had some with whiskey; super spicy and using the bathroom the next morning was not fun.

oh hey, I had forgotten about this thread. I got a dehydrator like a month ago and have made jerky 3 times now...first two times I made 5 different flavors, last time I made my favorite of those 10.

most turned out pretty ****ing good. a couple (the ones on the top rack) came out too dried out, I’ve just been giving that to the pupper.

anyway yeah, good times.

Wiper: Nice! I def gotta give that a try.

Jerky fans: ok some updates...

Big John’s mango jalapeño very good. My favorite flavor from them. Original prob second favorite. Fatty way better than regular imo.

Chops sweet & spicy and red chili flavors really good. Original and teriyaki too sweet. This stuff isn’t really jerky, though, it’s tender melt in your mouth beef candy.

Amazon suggested this stuff. Pretty expensive, but I couldn’t resist:
Made to Order Fire-Grilled Oriental Pork Jerky (Original Flavor - 8 Ounce) aka Singapore Bak Kwa - Los Angeles Times "Handmade Gift" Winner https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00CE10M8I/

Kinda odd. Hard to describe smell, taste, and texture. Kinda sweet, kinda Asian fish sauce savory flavor, pretty think and chewy slice. Didn’t love it straight out of the pack.

I decided to take their advice and heat it up. Did a minute a side in a pan. This turned out quite delicious, but more like grilled sweet pork slices than jerky.

Interesting, but won’t be getting this again.

That's the type of jerky I grew up with though it was more of a treat and infrequent since it was very pricey generally. We would get it "fresh" from the jerky store in Chinatown (I think it's still there) where sheets of jerky are hung on a rotating fan drying.

I prefer non-asian jerky though, the flavor is pretty good initially but it gets sweet fast and the texture is too thin and crumbly.

Mango jalapeño was not my favorite and went moldy before I could finish it

bobbo,

Gotta get those regular jerky bags FATTY (don't think you can do that for steak fries). You still have time to email them and get your order fixed!

I wasn't into their teriyaki, but have enjoyed everything else from them.

My local grocery store has been selling these Epic jerky bars in venison and bison. I am not a big connoisseur of jerky, but I've been enjoying them. Maybe a bit too salty.

I went through their website and found the sample packs. Did not realize they were 'local' (Austin) although I don't know if they have any sort of a walk-in sales office. Shipping was prompt...

They arrived Friday...I liked the venison but was not overly fond of the maple salmon. I got some of the bars and some of the strips. Have not tried any of the strips yet.

I can't stand the Epic stuff. Its not a single piece of meat, its ground and then reshaped.

They make good pork rinds though.

Seeing a lot of emails lately from Big John's about their ghost pepper jerky...anyone had it yet? Not worried so much about going in as, well...yeah, you know. I just remember what too much of the sriracha did to me...

jumped in head first on this big john and orderd a 10 pack of all different ones and have tried a few so far. In general I prefer a drier harder jerky and this has some moisture to it but it has plenty of chewiness to it, most have been great and i would recommend.

So far

Original Fatty - Only fatty cut so far so a little softer but very rich/savory and flavorful with a great texture that was a little softer than the non-fatty ones.

Mango Jalepeno - Inedible, not sure what happened but i ate a couple pieces and threw it out

Black pepper and Garlic Fiery - Not that hot, strong garlic with mild BP, overall pretty damn good

Sriracha - awesome ate the whole bag

Teriyaki Fiery - Again, awesome. Very similar heat to the sriracha, which is a little less than the sauce itself.

Hey jerky lovers,

KIND of weird but this is just virginia ham microwaved for 4 minutes and depending on your preference might just be your style of "jerky" ! It's the ends, but even better because it's like 3 bucks cheaper per pound.
