I'm kind of flabbergasted that is hasn't been done before. Meanwhile you know KISS has like 5 different versions.

Ya didn't mean to hate on Paul as a person. Just not a fan of wings or his solo. He seems like a great guy tho, and certainly no violent scumbag like john.

John may have changed as he got older.

I don't see how. I just don't like most of his solo work. "Imagine" is more treacly than any "silly love song" of Paul's.

Paul has so many hit with and without Wings...what does John have? Double Fantasy is decent, I guess...I really liked "Give Peace a Chance." "Mind Games" is good. "Whatever Gets You Through the Night" ok.

Two Virgins and Wedding Album are both horrific.

What else is there? How does that discography compare to Paul's? Or even George's or Ringo's?

Yes. Neither of them produced a decent body of solo work (as is often the case it seems they needed the friction of their working relationship cf Everly Brothers, Simon & Garfunkle etc) but Paul's is the least bad; Band On The Run was pretty decent and I'm not a McCartney fan at all.

I kinda feel sorry for people who, when they think of a Beatle song, think of a cover version first.

Joe Cocker's version of 'A Little Help from my Friends' is about the only one that comes close to taking it away from the Beatles.

Even Ringo's version of 'I Wanna be Your Man' blows Mick Jagger away.

ah well, the answer is of course THE WHO.

if only for the fact that pete townshend invented distorted guitars with a guy called jim marshall.

How do live performances figure into the equation?

Do The Beatles have anything that comes within 10 miles of this?:

I certainly appreciate Townsend's contribution.

20 years ago someone played for me an a widely despised Ono Band compilation called "Some Time In New York City" which I thought was genuinely good and innovative and by far the best post-Beatles thing I had ever heard (also the only album with Frank Zappa on it that I liked at all). It was a long time ago though so maybe I would hate it now. I know most Lennon fans think it is awful.

Instant Karma, Happy Xmas War Is Over (although it wasn't, obviously), Mind Games, Whatever Gets You Through the Night, Number 9 Dream, Nobody Told Me and Stand By Me are all quite good. And, from Double Fantasy, maybe Watching the Wheels.

Of Paul's solo output, not sure what's even bearable except maybe Another Day, Live And Let Die, Let 'Em In and Goodnight Tonight. Perhaps I'm overlooking something. (I don't mind Mull of Kintyre exactly, but you need to re-set your schmaltzmeter to avoid overload.) Ringo's hits were few but surprisingly good and George did some good things too.

A Denny Laine song stolen by McCartney, according to an old pal of mine who hobnobbed with some of that set in the 70s (his older sister had the misfortune to go out with Jimmy Page for a while).

It reminds me of the George Harrison quote when he was asked how, as producer of Monty Python films, he was able to cope with the egos of Palin and Cleese and laughed "Have you heard of Lennon and McCartney?"

A fantastic band (my first bought album was M, B, B & B) but for me not quite the sustained brilliance of Mick 'n' Keef's ritzy old tarts over that 5 year period nor the vast number of great pop song that the Beatles could boast.

I think "Isn't It A Pity" is the best post-Beatles song by any of them.

I get that some didn't (or can't now) see what all the fuss was about. I think living through Beatlemania was an experience that can't well be described deeply enough to overcome the bubblegum nature of the early years. And as a fan, I have to agree that my taste in music has evolved as I age and listening to their music from the first half of their reign.... is fun only for the nostalgia.

And to some extent, the classics from the second half still have an AM radio feel to them. Too pop-ish for my tastes.

That said, the writing throughout their history is real poetry. Paul's evolution as a composer of music is simply amazing.

Do you have to be over 60 to post in this thread? #1 most overrated band. Will become forgotten once baby boomers die out.

And who do you think will be remembered instead?

They were broken up by the time I was born, but I still think they're the best band of all time, and very unlikely to ever be matched.

I love the solo Lennon music, minus Imagine which I find a bit lame and has been played wayyyy too much on the radio. Referring to The Beatles as a boy band is a pretty bad take Imo.

Good question for a guy like Wait. If the Beatles will be forgotten, does that mean everyone will be forgotten, or do you think other mainstream bands will be remembered over them?
