Velvet Revolver. Scott Weiland created better melodies than axel. Yeah, rose had November Rain and Sweet Child of Mine, but if you’re counting quantity over quality and on stage live persona Weiland wins every time, assuming he wasn’t high on heroine. Weiland did it with 2 bands and a good solo album. What did axel have? He had like 4 gems….November Rain , sweet child, better, sorry, and maaaybe welcome to the jungle.

If you’re unfamiliar with VR check out this concert on yt

Iron Maiden. Paul Di'Anno was good but, Dickinson took the band to another level.

Faith No More. Went from unreliable guy who couldn't hold a tune to arguably one of the best voices in rock.

Pink Floyd is more convoluted. David/Roger much better singers than Syd which is what I assume you meant. Unfortunately, as Roger hijacked the band he sang more, which is worse.

Not really on topic, but They Might Be Giants with John Linnell singing lead (usually on the songs he writes) are much superior to TMBG when John Flansburgh is singing lead. Flansburgh is good, but Linnell is a flat-out genius.

There was a band called Days of the New that had some hit songs but they were pretty lame I thought. They got a new singer, changed their name to Tantric, and actually got really good

Semi-interesting factoid: They Might Be Giants came up with the America Runs On Dunkin advertising campaign.

Not so semi-interesting factoid: I dated a woman who worked for AdAge, the agency that came up with that campaign. She actually worked on the Dunkin’ account. Every morning, I’d wake her up with ‘America runs on Dunkin’ and it aggravated her. But I couldn’t stop.

She didn’t cite that as the reason for her leaving but I like to think it was.

I once drove Brian Johnson a couple of miles and had a conversation with him, without realizing who he was until afterwards. Nice bloke.
