Think again, Poker Mo-mo.

Like there's any chance you'll convince a mother that an admitted online hipster is cooler than their own child.
08-03-2010 , 09:33 PM
I'm not trying to convince you, believe me.

It's kind of telling that you would read that and think of your kid. I don't hate college kids in general, just the douchey entitled ones.
08-03-2010 , 10:01 PM
Actually it struck me because the description was so far off from my kid. He drives a 10 year old Malibu (that he rolled) and is currently packing up his room with his girlfriend while listening to CCR on 8 track(!)

Whatever, we all get annoyed. Your version is no worse or better than any other. Sorry about the hipster crack.

Is he listening on an 8 track ironically?

I don't think we have the time necessary to debate this.

7 years pass...

Also, me to my Son: An 8 track? Really?

So I'm lightyears late on this but Live from New York - An Uncensored History of Saturday Night Live is a fantastic book and should be read by absolutely everyone.

Its also the first "oral history" style book I've ever read and I've gotta say, I enjoy the style a lot. I love hearing people's true opinions in the interview form, particularly so that I can independently conclude that Janeane Garofalo is a cancerous bitch of the highest order.
08-04-2010 , 12:39 AM
She seems really ****y lately, and I used to tolerate/maybe even not dislike, her.

Not you poker mom, janeane garafalo. Tee hee.

Zero chance a college aged kid listening to an 8-track isn't a hipster.
08-04-2010 , 01:37 AM
What are the supposed advantages of 8-track? All I remember about them is that (a) you could potentially have a break right in the middle of a song, and (b) the last two we listened to in our sweet 86 Buick Regal were Chicago XIII and Seals & Crofts' Diamond Girl.

He may just belong in this thread:

http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/34...one-do-820936/

When I used to routinely hit up thrift shops and flea markets for eBay there were always tonnes of 8-track tapes available for nothing.

Hey, he could also be a nerd. I have a hs aged cousin who has a laser disc collection, zero percent hipster, 100 percent nerd, I assume the same could be true of 8-tracks. The music aspect of it does lend itself more to the hipster side of the spectrum, I would think though.
08-04-2010 , 01:49 AM
I don't think we can grow hipsters on Wisconsin farms, but I suppose I could be wrong.

The great thing about 8-tracks, when they first came out, was that they were the only way you could play music in your car that wasn't on the radio and it was a 'wowzer!' technology to us kids. Of course there'd be breaks right in the middle of songs but that was something that had to be put up w/. Then came cassettes, much better.

I guess a kid listening to 8-tracks now is trying to be retro. Tie-dyed shirts and bell bottom jeans to follow. Just hope he doesn't come up w/ an 'Earth Mother' gf.

There's apparently an oral history of ESPN coming out that may dish some serious dirt on all the sex/harassment going on in Bristol.

It's pretty obviously not a universal hatred of college age kids so much as a complaint about a prominent piece of college culture at large universities. Having recently lived in an undergrad neighborhood as a non-undergrad myself, I think ATAT's post is a pretty accurate picture of life among the bros. I think if you saw it on a day to day basis, you probably wouldn't have great feelings about it either.
